Set Game Product Description:

This award winning card game is for one or more players. It is recommended for ages six and above. The object of the game is to identify "sets" of three cards. Each card is unique in its four features; color - red, green or purple, symbol - diamond, squiggle or oval, shading - solid, striped or open, and number - 1, 2 or 3.

A "set" consists of three cards on which each feature is either the same on all of the cards, or different on all of the cards. This game contains complete instructions for play, 81 cards, and a durable plastic carrying case.

Here are the Rules for the Set Game - from Wikipedia

Several games can be played with these cards, all involving the concept of a set. A set consists of three cards which satisfy all of these conditions:

1. They all have the same number, or they have three different numbers.
2. They all have the same symbol, or they have three different symbols.
3. They all have the same shading, or they have three different shadings.
4. They all have the same color, or they have three different colors.

The rules of Set are summarized by: If you can sort a group of three cards into "Two of ____ and one of _____," then it is not a set.

Given any two cards from the deck, there will be one and only one other card that forms a set with them. One example of a set would be these three cards:

1. One red striped diamond
2. Two red solid diamonds
3. Three red open diamonds

In one game, the dealer lays out cards on the table until either twelve are laid down or someone sees a set and calls "Set!" The player who called "Set" takes the cards in the set and the dealer continues to deal out cards until twelve are on the table. If a player sees a set among the twelve cards, s/he calls "Set" and takes the three cards, and the dealer lays three more cards on the table.

It is possible that there is no set among the twelve cards; in this case, the dealer deals out three more cards to make fifteen dealt cards, or eighteen or more, as necessary. This process of dealing by threes and finding sets continues until the deck is exhausted and there are no more sets on the table. At this point, whoever has collected the most sets wins.

The Set Game has been on Amazon's Top 100 Best Seller List for over 3 years now. It would appear that this game has what it takes to go the distance!

The Set Game is a good game, because it does a great job of developing the brain, unlike some games that are electronic/video, and do not always use actual imagination. For the affordable price of under $12.00, it is well worth the price!

I recently got the Set Game for my children, ages 3 & 5. I know the game is suggested for ages 6 & up, but I was surprised at how well my children did! My 3 yr old knows all his colors, shapes, and numbers, so he was well able to play.

We just bent the rules a bit for them :) , only requiring them to match at least 2 or more of the features in a Set, for example: They picked up a set of three cards that matched either, numbers & shapes, or numbers and colors, or colors and shading, or shapes and colors, etc.

In the real rules, for older players, all the features on the three cards to make a set have to be either, the same, or different. My 5 yr old was able to understand that concept, and did quite well with it. I am amazed at how it stretches the brain, especially when trying to match a set using all completely different, features. :)
