The objective of the game is to win 10 victory points by building settlements, cities and roads, or the largest army or with certain development cards. Use resources of ore, logs, wool, bricks and grain to build and trade with. The great thing about the 3 to 4 player Settlers Catan board game is the random map set up allows for endless board set ups so no game is ever the same. How does the expansion allow 2 more people to play?
The game board size is increased from 19 tiles to 30, you get 30 numbered discs, more resource cards of course and rules to allow the 5 to 6 players to build or buy things between turns as to not collect too many cards in their hand for when a 7 is rolled, whoever has more than 7 cards n their hand has to discard half of their hand.

In most Settlers of Catan games that we've played, there usually was a shortage of one resource during the first third or half of the game, due to the position of the robber or the dice not coming up much on certain numbers. A shortage of bricks, lumber, grain or wool can hinder
players from creating new settlements which are needed for victory points.

The Catan: Seafarers Game Expansion adds a whole new realm of strategy by introducing boat building, islands to discover, the pirate(formerly the "robber"), gold resource hex, which allows you to choose the resource that you collect and new strategies for winning which I won't give away here.

In order to play with more than four players, each expansion will require the corresponding 5-6 player extension to go with it.

The Settlers of Catan- Cities & Knights Expansion adds a whole new dimension of game play with improvements to your cities, progress cards (instead of development cards), a new event die that is rolled with the standard dice which determines movement of the barbarians, commodities of paper, cloth and coin to buy city improvements and the knights become a token rather than a card. the number of knights are very important as they can bump opponents knights and the robber and defend against the barbarians.

The Cities and knights rules are more complex than the original and add some time to the game, personally I prefer the Seafarers
expansion, but all in all these expansions make the Settlers of Catan games a lot more fun!

When playing the ,Settlers Catan Game, whenever a player rolls a 7, whoever is holding more than 7 cards in their hand must discard half of them. The person whose turn it is included and they get to move the "Robber" game piece to another hex board tile, thereby stopping resource production for those players with settlements or cities adjacent to the hex with the robber on it. This is a strategy that can be used to try to stop whoever has the most victory points from winning or just getting back at someone.
