there are 4 basic strategies that can help you get head in Settlers of Catan. By employing and mastering these 4 basics will help you not only get ahead faster but also help you win more games.

Strategy 1: Its all About the Number. The hex tiles with red numbers have the highest chance of winning with the dice. Try to strategically place your cities around hexes that have the most commonly rolled die numbers. There are 36 die roll combinations.

odds for 7 6/36...odds for 6 and 8 5/36...odds for 5 and 9 4/36...odds for 4 and 10 3/36...odds for 3 and 11 2/36...odds for 2 and 12 1/36.

So the idea here is to try and place your settlements in-between your resource hexes and these number hexes this way you will really boost your chances of gaining that resource.

Strategy 2: Expand, Expand, Expand. The earlier you start thinking about growth the better off you will be. As soon as you lay down your first two settlements start thinking about where to go next.

Strategy 3: Interrupt and Frustrate. use your roads and towns to frustrate the others players ability to expand. If you build in the middle of their expansion it disrupts their "road count" effectively blockading them and giving you the chance to expand where they wanted to go.

Strategy 4: Bricks are #1. In Settlers of Catan, bricks are probably the most valuable resource you can get your greedy hands on. There are only 3 brick and ore tiles and 4 of every other type of resource so it's a great resource to secure. Especially since bricks are necessary for roads and settlements. So often the player who has the most bricks has the ability to expand the fastest.

Catan Seafarers is an exciting expansion edition to the regular settlers catan game. This expansion adds a whole realm of strategy possibility and also introduces the players to the "Pirate" also known as the "Robber" in the original game. In order to play with more than four players you will need the corresponding 5-6 player extension so keep that in mind as you decide which one you want.

Seafarers of Catan includes a new resource, Gold. This opens up a whole new world of play and strategy possibilities, something to keep in mind as you build and expand your way to victory.

Hint Hint..How many Gold Resource Hexes are there? This should help you out early on as you weigh the possibilities between ore and bricks.

An excellent expansion to the regular Settlers game and a favorite among many competitive strategy players, adding the Seafarers of Catan to your board game library will bring hours of fun and enjoyment.

But by far the best part of this game is the addition of progress cards and an "event dice" that is rolled with the standard dice which determines movement of the barbarians.

Maintaining a decent number of knights in the game is crucial as they can help defend against the barbarians and the robber and as well aid in frustrating your fellow players. Knights of Catan is alot more complex then the original Settlers game and it will take you awhile to adjust to a whole new set of strategies and possibilities but once you do this may become your favorite Catan expansion.
