7 Passenger Vehicles (Not Minivans)

Ranked #467 in Cars, #27,767 overall

Not a Minivan

Sometime in the future, when we have our third child, we will need a larger vehicle. We won't be able to put 3 car seats in the car we currently drive. My husband likes cars. He has a few Mustangs that he is restoring and drives a big, red truck. I don't care much about cars other than that they can get me from here to there. He, however, does not want a minivan.

This lens is to compare some of the seven passenger vehicles that are currently on the market. Since I haven't test driven any of them, this will give me a way to compare them in writing before getting behind the wheel.

SUVs

Since I have not been to test drive any of these vehicles, these reviews were taken from various sites. Click on the name to visit the official site of each vehicle.

Chevy Traverse - With a nice little V-6, this vehicle gets better fuel efficiency (barely) than the Honda Pilot, but is definitely smaller.

Honda Pilot - The Pilot cam out in 2003 (to replace the Passport) and was always rated high from the start. The newest version came out in 2009 and did not disappoint. They come in 2WD or 4WD and have a Variable Cylinder Management system for better gas mileage.

Toyota Highlander - The most diverse of the 3, the Highland comes in both a 4cylider and 6 cylinder versions. In addition to that, and at an addition $7000, it comes in a hybrid version as well.

Mazda CX-9: The CX-9 combines three rows of enhanced interior space all wrapped up in a body that looks as great as it drives. Powered by Mazda's fuel efficient 3.7-liter V6 engine, this Crossover vehicle has enough Zoom-Zoom to spoil all seven passengers.

Dodge Durango - This 7 passenger SUV features a wheelbase like the new Grand Cherokee, except a little bit longer. While this is more than just a rehashing of the old Jeep Grand Cherokee, it does have a lot in common with it, except for a few features such as an Alpine audio system that has nine speakers and a subwoofer, active head restraints, dual rear exhaust, and Hill Start Assist.

Infiniti QX56 - While Infiniti is actually the luxury department of Nissan, it is actually an entirely different brand, with different engineering, design and marketing than that of Nissan. Unlike the older models, this 7 passenger SUV is rounder and sleeker, with 20" aluminum wheels as the stock available, which can be upgraded to 22". The interior boasts of attention to detail and harmony among all of the components that can be found inside. What was done with Infiniti was that it was already stocked full of the usual features that you will find on the other 7 passenger SUVs, but they have given so many upgrades to continually make it better.

Toyota Sequoia - Toyota is still the number one car brand in a lot of continents other than the Americas and Europe, and this is because you get the quality that they promise in their car. Toyota's popular 7 passenger luxury SUV is the Sequoia, which boasts of spacious interiors - even with seven people inside, a powerful engine, a smooth and quiet ride every time, and its 10.000 pound towing capacity. It you're looking for power and safety, you can't go wrong with this car. It's no wonder it's named after one of the strongest trees in the world.

Ford Flex - It was designed to replace the minivan of Ford known as the Freestar. The Ford Flex, like any other seven passenger car, has a second and third row that can be folded flat into the floor. This allows ample space for cargo and storage capabilities. What's unique about the Flex is the voice-activated communication as well as the entertainment system included, although these features are optional. Some other unique and cool features are the satellite radio, mini-fridge middle console, multi-panel sunroof, and the much-loved mood lighting on the interior, which is truly one of a kind.

Nissan Murano - You may not love the design, but at least Murano brings some style to the conservative world of the family SUV. Its tangible assets include secure handling, good utility, and a strong, efficient V6 powertrain. Competitive pricing.

Do you have any of these cars? What do you think?

Nice lens. I do have to say, though, I still prefer my minivan. It rides more comfortably than the SUVs other family members have, has a ton of little hidey holes for grandkids toys, LOTS of cup holders (my favorite part :) ), an mp3 plug, AND seats 7. And when I don't have the grandchildren and senior mom filling it up, I can change seats around as much as I want, giving me the benefits I'd get with a truck as well. It may not be cool, but it is grand for this grandma :) Just some thoughts. (Half my family DOES side with your sweet hubby, though :) ). Thanks for an interesting visit.

Great post. You bring up an issue that I think a lot of families have to deal with, particularly active families with a lot of "gear" to go along with a lot of people!
Here are a few great websites that I've found that highlight some of the things you've mentioned:
    7passengersuvreview.com
www.7passengersuvreview.com (This site reviews a lot of larger SUVs.)

    minisuv.org
www.minisuv.org (This site features SUVs that would still work for a family of your size, but that are smaller, more sporty SUVs)

Check them out. I hope you find them helpful!

The Pilot is great. But my choice would be the Acura MDX!!

We have two Nissan Pathfinders and have found them to be extremely reliable. Good Luck with your research!

Fabulous lens. We just had our 3rd child and are in the market for a larger vehicle, NOT an SUV or minivan. I think some markets call these 7 passenger vehicles "crossovers." Great information here.
