A general synopsis:
Seven Deadly Wonders
BevsPaper ReviewBasis for this action packed story is that a golden capstone with mystical crystals once sat on top of the Great Pyramid of Giza. The story unfolds as 3 groups (2 bad guys and 1 good) try to find the pieces of the capstone that were hidden in each of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World by Alexander the Great and then protected by a cult of Amun-ra with booby traps built by ancient Egyptian engineers. All the pieces must be found and put together before the Day of Tartarus arrives. Whoever stands at the capstone on that day and recites the ritual words can either rule the world for 1,000 years or give the world peace.
I don't typically read this genre of fiction but this book really captivated my interest. Reilly has the extraordinary gift of writing that "grabs" you on those first few pages and keeps you interested through out. I prefer historical fiction and mystery novels and this book actually gave me a bit of that too. Reilly incorporates the history of Egypt along with Alexander the Great and the Seven Wonders of the Ancient world in this story. He gave me some mystery with trying to figure out who the "mole" in his group was. The book is full of action, historical information, and was just a wonderful reading experience. I'll pick more of Matthew Reilly's books to read. I also hope that somebody makes a movie of this book!
