Beyond Six Senses

How many people question about the number of senses that humans possess! - is it five, six, seven or more? There perhaps, is a common perception that it is enough to develop the sixth sense; and by developing all the six senses, a person is capable of experiencing ESP or extrasensory perception or paranormal sensory perception. The truth is far from different. We will briefly see what is the evolutionary difference between the essential senses (and sensations) and the higher developed powers of clairvoyance, clairaudience etc. We shall also see where the Darwinian theory of evolution is misplaced and how it 'actually' should be viewed, to understand the process of evolution and human development to the higher stages of moksha or Salvation of the Soul.

Evolution and The Seven Senses

Excerpts from 'Karma in Christianity'

All animals and humans have five basic senses viz. sight, smell, hearing, touch and taste. The sixth sense of cognizance, the faculty available only to man, is the 'common sense', one that helps us perceive all the five senses together and analyze them and help us comprehend between good and bad (evil). The seventh sense of pre-cognizance or precognition, one that is not fully developed in all humans would be the highly evolved senses of intuition, clairvoyance, clairaudience, and increased levels of wisdom or jnana, and the perception of the paranormal. A human being of high spiritual evolution would thus perceive aural or ethereal beings, possess spiritual powers of healing and the like.

Darwin's theory of natural evolution, read as it is, sounds a tad out of sync and debatable, because if a single-celled organism were to evolve over eons of years and then develop into the higher classes of beings; and if men indeed evolved out of apes, the theory of natural progression should then eliminate the need for the earlier states of existence as meaningless. Thus, after the evolution of the apes to the higher class of human beings; apes then would become redundant and along the same lines no single-cell organism need to exist, simply because that species would have evolved. But then, Darwin was addressing the issue from a totalitarian point of view, to encompass evolution on the whole, of all beings over long periods of time. If one were to realign the view of Darwin and his theory to individual planes of existence, the view then assumes a different proposition. Darwin was probably correct in his theory of natural progression, and probably, many beings that live today, would have existed as a single celled organism eons ago and by subsequent transmigrations could have evolved to become complex multi-celled beings and eventually progressed to take on the human form. The individual 'you' or 'I', could in all probability have gone through the Darwinian natural progression during various points in time, and 'now', is where we are! Nature and the laws of karma would then govern the states of progression or regression, according the deeds of each individual. That would then put the onus on men, to evolve to higher states of existence, by following righteous behaviour, or devolve into lower classes of beings by exhibiting animalistic traits. The next logical question is, 'what would be the next stage of evolution for man?' By natural progression, 'is there a higher stage that man can evolve into?' The answer could perhaps be that invariably, scientifically, or spiritually, man eventually must attain Salvation or Moksha, which is the next step in evolutionary progression, one that can happen after many cycles of births and deaths!

Six Senses

mismatch says:

some have less

stargazer90 says:

so from what i understood...a person's7th sense gives them the ability to see, hear and communicate with spirits and transcendental entities. People who have this power to sense other worldly existences and can communicate with them sometimes harness this potential and become psychic mediums or spiritual practitioners....so it's a step further than 6th sense...I aways assumed that they go hand in hand. Some people have visions of dead relatives, friends, ect...warning them of future danger...they also have heighten senses similar to animals..i do believe that the human brain is capable of doing unimaginable things that science cannot explain (yet)...And i also believe in a soul (according to scientists we are all energy)...and a supreme being (God, although he's known by my names lol)..there's a lot of mysteries leftto be solved, but overall great lens! Seven Senses

squidoopets says:

All of life possesses an infinite number of senses - the error lies in assigning a number :)

crstnblue says:

I like to consider that we have 7 but we're not used to be aware of, recognise and use them properly

goo2eyes says:

after reading your lens, i believe we have 7 senses

When one remembers lifetimes as chapters in a book, there is the understanding that a whole other world exists outside (in terms of thinkingness, analysis) of perception. Dropping perception, or the 6 labeled senses, perhaps opens up what you're calling the 7th sense. Yet that statement is false, because the so called 7th sense had to exist before the first 6 could be labelled.

I don't buy into the argument that earlier lifeforms would become unnecessary over time, nor that evey living thing gets recycled. We obviosuly do not know for sure - but I'll have to be guided by my sixth sense :)

I don't believe in the supernatural but just looking at human biology it's clear that we have more than five senses. The vomeronasal organ represents sense number six in my book. There are also other internal organs which sense variations of blood pressure, hormone levels, electrolytes, invading proteins, blood sugar, temperature, and any number of other variables. Those senses are not under conscious control yet they clearly exist or we'd fall prey to entropy. Maintaining homeostasis is a full time job and it requires many sense organs to work properly.
