Sew Much Comfort - Sewing Adaptive Clothing For American Veterans
Imagine being a wounded soldier with an injured limb. Now try to put on a hospital gown or even some regular dress clothes while trying to remain dignified. It's not easy to do. Sew Much Comfort was formed from a single idea -- to help those troops regain some semblance of normalcy, while providing adaptive clothing that is easy to slip on or off. The sewers (AKA Angels of Mercy) rely on donations to continue their work. Any little bit helps, whether for materials, postage or labels. All of this money comes out of their own pocket!
This lens was set up to show what a great program this is and get the word out! All monies and donations will go straight to helping this fine organization help our wounded veterans.

Some Figures On Our Troops Overseas
The Need Grows For Sew Much Comfort
According to numbers compiled by the Defense Manpower Data Center, 2,000 Americans have been wounded in Afghanistan through July 3. That is almost as many as the 2,139 that were wounded in 2009. The 2009 wounded figures were themselves a three-fold increase over the previous year.
In another alarming statistic, four times as many American service members have been wounded in the first six months of 2010 as were wounded in the same time frame a year ago.
Through the end of June, 1,922 American service members have been wounded in Afghanistan.
That compares to 485 wounded through the same time period last year. June not only was the deadliest month ever for U.S. forces in Afghanistan, as 60 service members died in the conflict, but it also was the month that saw the highest number of American wounded.
In June, 517 Americans were wounded, continuing a trend from May, when 406 were wounded.
For comparison, the previous record high since the start of the war in Afghanistan was the 416 wounded in August 2009. Since the start of the war in Afghanistan, there have been 6,773 Americans wounded in combat, significantly less than the 31,882 wounded in Iraq since the invasion in 2003.
However, until recently the number of American forces in Afghanistan was significantly less than those sent to Iraq.
Donations of money, clothing and material is always a great way to contribute to this cause. Gifts of this kind are greatly appreciated and can be found by going to Sew Much Comfort

Serving Those Who Serve
Caring For The Wounded Veterans
***This passage is also from the home page at Sew Much Comfort and is intended to show the kind of work done by these ladies***Sew Much Comfort provides adaptive clothing at no cost to support the unique needs of our injured service members from all branches of the military and national guard. The need for our adaptive clothing continues to grow as American military members continue to be injured serving in our current conflicts.. Each week, many wounded military members arrive in the States from Germany for extensive medical treatment for bullet wounds, burns, head and limb injuries and amputations. We also support many previously injured and their needs as they change during the recovery process. These injuries require large fixator, prosthetics and casts that are too bulky to fit under ordinary clothing or underwear. Without adaptive clothing the only option for them is a hospital gown. Sew Much Comfort is the only organization providing adaptive clothing at no cost to our wounded service members.
All our adaptive clothing was designed with input from the wounded and medical personnel. Our wardrobe options continue to evolve as we strive to meet the needs of our injured service members, Our clothing gives the service member and medical personnel the ability to have ready access to their injuries utilizing the adaptive openings in our clothing. The adapted clothing allows injured service members to have their clothing appear the same as normal civilian attire; an attribute which helps facilitate a more natural and comfortable recovery. The clothing is adapted from either store bought garments or sewn with our custom designed patterns.
