How to make a babydoll top
Babydoll tops made with pillowcases

These tops are so easy to make! I love finding vintage sheets and pillowcases to make them from and they take less than an hour to put together. What you'll need:
Pillowcase
Knit material or a t-shirt
Cut the pillow case into a triangle of sorts where it is approx 2 inches wider on the top than your measurement. I usually make the tops 30 inches around and this fits under the bustline and generally fits a 34-36 bra size.
So my fabric piece is approx 17 inch across the top, 18 inch long and 26 across the bottom.
First with right sides together sew the triangle piece on each side. making the bottom part of the top.

Then cut your stretchy material into a piece that is 29-30 inches wide (depending on the stretchiness) As you play with these you will get the feel for it. And the tube will be 14 inches high. Sew it into a tube

Then fold it over itself

Next place the stretchy tube of fabric right sides together with the pillowcase and using your serger (it works best) sew with the stretchy fabric on top and the cotton on the bottom (on top of the machine plate) as you sew you will pull the cotton fabric tout making the stretchy fabric tight around it.
What happens now is this has basically made your pillowcase stretchy so it has give when you put it on. You can serge around the bottom edge to prevent fraying and then turn this up just at the thread line and iron. Then topstitch with a regular machine to finish the hem.
There you have it!
