Whether you prefer wearing a sexy dress or perhaps a mini skirt they are both in the category of sexy clothes for women. Sexy dresses or sexy mini dresses is a way of distinguishing between two types of dresses that are both sexy but the distinction after that may be rather subtle.

Sexy is one of those things that is in the eye of the beholder. In other words if you think it is sexy, it is. On the other hand if you don't think it is a sexy dress, it isn't. It isn't up to a designer to tell women what is and isn't sexy but up to your own sense of style or lack of it. Our definition of a sexy dress is: Short, tight, revealing and designed to get a lot of positive attention from men and women alike. Short because the more leg a woman shows the sexier the garment is considered. Short dresses are provocative as the closer a woman is to revealing her undergarments, specifically panties, the more risque the garment is felt to be, thus a short dress is sexier than a longer dress, although long dresses with slits on the legs are felt to be sexy as well. The more of a woman's body that is exposed, in this case the thighs and perhaps even her hips the sexier the garment is felt to be. Tight because a loose, flowing dress that does not show off any of a woman's torso the less sexy it is felt to be. Hugging her figure is more provocative than a tent like garment. Revealing because a woman who shows off her legs, stomach, back and breasts is daring as the garment exposes erogenous zones that are prohibited or at least discouraged to be shown off in public.

These "rules" are loosely enforced as women are allowed wide latitude as to what to show off in public to a certain degree. A woman in a club late at night with alcohol served and only adults in attendance can wear more provocative clothes than the same woman at a restaurant with children of any age in attendance in the early evening. Of course every woman can stretch these rules to the degree she wants and that the proprietor of the business is willing to accept. Amazingly these rules are rarely enforced as women self enforce these limits without the need for outside intervention. Societal norms tell us from an early age what we can and cannot do in public. So sexy dresses are limited to night clubs, social events where such garments are allowed or even encouraged, venues such as Las Vegas and other adult entertainment destinations that advertise "What you do in Vegas, stays in Vegas"! This is a not so subtle suggestion that you can behave however you like with no fear of it getting back to your hometown, friends, family ........ These societal norms in part explain why young women wear very revealing sexy costumes once a year at Halloween and other wise are "nice" girls the rest of the year. Some suggest that Americans are puritanical and uptight when it comes to sex and sexuality. This may or may not be true but it is not arguable that exhibitionism is not encouraged or even allowed in our society. Women may engage in exposing their breasts at Mardi Gras for "beads" or dress provocativally in Las Vegas on vacation once a year but by and large women are bound by social convention and conform to the roles they have chosen for themselves as mothers, wives and business women.

Sexy tops is a category that contains women's tops or blouses of every description that are sexy. Again we need to provide a definition for a sexy top as not every top a woman wears is sexy. Sexy tops have a couple of characteristics that help make it sexy.
