Seychelles Vacation
Ranked #38,382 in Travel & Places, #930,325 overall
Once, in the late 1800s, an English General claimed the ancient rain forest on the island of Praslin, one of the islands in the archipelago of Seychelles to be the original biblical Garden of Eden. The Seychelles has since been described as the Galapagos of the Indian Ocean. The 115 coral and granite islands have remained largely unsullied by human settlements. Conservation is very important in the Seychelles, it would have to be despite the fact that the country only supports about 100000 inhabitants, the 176 square miles of land might not be sustained for a long period if the natural resources were not taken care of. And so, Seychelles have a number of protected sites scattered all over, like the Ste Anne National Park, the Morne Seychelles National park, Baie Ternay National park, Conception island and the largest seabird colony in the world not to mention the remote coral islands that are home to a variety of sea creatures. If it hadn't been for the private resort boom and the need for the republic to build an economy maybe the boom in hotel construction could have been stemmed. But from the time the Frégate Island Private resort opened its Balinese inspired doors for luxury Seychelles vacation experience in 1998, more and more reputable chains hotel brands acquired lands to build properties for luxury accommodations.
Seychelles Islands
There was nothing inspired about the Frégate's décor but for the frigate being the Frégate, Saudi princes were reportedly landing their private jets and having sinfully decadent parties. This is really what started the Seychelles hotel construction boom- seeing the opportunity to cash in on offering private resort privileges to paparazzi weary celebrities. The resort island continues to be a favorite place for celebrity honeymoons. It is fast gaining a reputation for being the ideal place for people to express their love for each other, whether it lasts after they leave is another matter but as the saying goes, whatever happens "we will always have Paris" (or rather the Seychelles). Amongst Frégate's most illustrious celebrity honeymooners are Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston, who did end up splitting but have made the record of the Seychelles celebrity honeymooners, as have Paul McCartney and Heather Mills. Before we begin to make the Seychelles sound more like a jinxed honeymoon spot, we should mention Liz Hurley who to date is thankfully still married to Arun Nayer and Salma Hayek who reportedly is still very attached to her French husband Francois-Henri Pinault.
Frégate might still be popular with the privacy seeking celebrity jet setters because of its exclusivity for the rest of the normal and not so famous travelers who can afford private island rates, there's always Mahe Island, the largest island in the archipelago. The Capital of Mahe, Victoria is a beautiful place that should not be missed by anyone on a Seychelles vacation. Tourist attractions include the Vauxhall Clock tower replica, the Victoria botanical gardens, and the courthouse. The national museum should also not to be missed, as is the Sir Selwyn Selwyn-Clarke Market where one can purchase Victoria's finest vanilla and coconut products and maybe in your wanderings, you might spot a celebrity, they are apparently not as hard to spot as the giant sea turtles.
