The Seychelles is a group of beautiful Tropical Island located west of the Indian Ocean. This part of the world is tipped as a tropical paradise of white sandy beaches and clear warm sea off the 1000 miles the coast of the African continent. The rich character of Africa has seeped through in the colors, the Kenyan benga infused rhythm of the Moutya music, the culture and the warmth of the island people.
Seychelles Holidays
Mahe Island is the largest of the Seychelles islands measuring only five miles wide by seventeen miles long. The other popular islands are Digue and Prasin which are not as populated as Mahe. The Seychelles has been developed into resort islands with most of the indigenous inhabitants working in the tourism industry. This can be described as the one place where life is a holiday vacation spot and livelihood depend on the tourism trade so it goes without saying that everyone treats everyone else with courtesy because it is - a way of life.
The Seychelles offers a variety of holiday activities; some are dependent on the seasons while others are available all year round. For instance if you would like to do some windsurfing the best time to take a Seychelles would be May and October while diving is best done during the months of March to May or September to November when the weather is windless and the waters are much calmer. It is best to plan your trip in accordance with what it is you would like to do. December is peak season, hotels are usually full, not for any particular reason except that it is a holiday month all over the world and people prefer to take their vacations during this time. The weather is not particularly good at this time. It tends to be windy and because of their locations the islands of the Seychelles experience heavy cyclonic weather and rainfall especially during the months of December and January.
Some useful information about the Seychelles
* There is an international airport on Victoria but no direct flights to the Seychelles are available from America or Europe. The most common route is via Mauritius from Johannesburg.
* You can rent a car or use taxis and buses to get around. The public transport system is quite good and the locals are very friendly and helpful. The languages spoken by locals are French, Creole and English and the currency is the rupee.
* Accommodation options for Seychelles holiday makers range from self catering chalet-style beach accommodation to 5-star luxury hotels that offer things like spa treatments and activities like golf. Guesthouses are also available.
* There are many tourist attractions and things to be bought as souvenirs. Strangely enough, the most common souvenir besides the local craftwork is tea on account of the tea plantation history the Indian Ocean islands all share.
* One can find several travel packages offered by agencies online which could make a Seychelles holiday a little cheaper and provide the convenience of not having to worry about the details while planning your holiday.
