The 2010 World Series was the 106th occurrence of Major League Baseball's championship series. The Giants' win marked several firsts. Some of the firsts include:

* Giants championship since 1954, when they were in New York.

* World Series championship for the San Francisco Bay Area since the Oakland Athletics swept the Giants in the 1989 World Series.
* Major sports championship for the Bay Area since the 49ers won Super Bowl XXIX in 1995.

The Giants held their victory parade on November 3, following the same parade route that the team used when they moved to the city 52 years earlier.
