Shadow Puppets

In this fascinating performance art, it is rather remarkable that the puppets themselves are NEVER seen, only their shadows on a screen or blanket. There is no other form of puppetry that can master the imagination quite like the shadow puppets can.

This art is seen in it's most brilliant beauty throughout the Orient today. In such places as Indonesia, elaborate and colorful puppets are made to represent ancient and modern stories alike.

Another form of shadow puppets that needs mentioned is the form of hand shadow puppets. In this style, no puppets are formed or created because the performer uses only his hands to give the outlines of places, people, creatures.

Certainly a fascination with this puppet form is how easily the figures can 'morph' into new objects, most often to the delight of the audience.
