Shadow Creatures and The Giant Witch of Inuit Legend

As a 77 year old man, I have lived an extraordinary life and have seen many things, but none of things that ever happened to me was as terrifying or horrific as when I spent my first summer as a 14 year old boy in the pacific northwest on a camping trip. The memory of that time still terrorizes me to this day when I think of it. I want to share my story with all of you.

It was 1946, just one year after WW 2. My father moved the family (my mother, younger sister and me) from Chicago to Washington State. My father was offered and accepted a job in the logging industry, and after the war, we all packed up everything we owned and headed out on the road together. As I recall it took us about a week. I was excited and nervous about the move we were making. Little did I know at that time just how nervous I should have been?

My father had bought an old three bedroom timber framed house for us off of an old dirt road about a half mile to our nearest neighbor. We were surrounded by the tall pine and fir trees that are common to the area. I never initially put much thought into it, but I had begun to notice as the weeks passed strange figures looming around the house at night, they appeared to be in the form of shadow people which I would watch from my bedroom window after the lantern went out.

At first I was not very afraid of them, just more curious. This would turn out to be a mistake. The shadowy figures did not move as the rest of the shadows did under the moonlight. they moved differently and with a purpose. They always appeared regardless of if it was windy or not. I cannot explain exactly HOW I knew they were different, but they definitely were. They resembled people and walked through the forest in steps around the house.

The Black Shadow on the Ceiling

A couple of years ago my husband went out of town and me and my two girls were at home alone and my terrier too, (his name is Spot). Anyway, we were home alone and my girls were already asleep and I was up watching TV. From the corner of my eye I saw a shadow in the corner of the next room, (the rooms were right next to each other, they shared a door). Anyway, there was a shadow in the corner. This shadow was always trying to get my attention, but it never really fazed me.

Spot would bark at it and it would stop when I would go over to where it was, but when I turned back again it would moved side to side like it wanted me to look its way. Then all of the sudden I saw something black crawling on the ceiling and man I froze.

Spot began to bark and he was drooling and I could tell he was scared but he kept his position. This black shadow was crawling on my ceiling fast and the shadow in the corner had stopped moving. I could still see that it was there but it wouldn't move. So then I got under the covers and I covered my head, Spot too. When I took the covers off to take a look it peaked its head out to look at me, man I was scared. I covered my head and put the TV on the Christian Channel and I went to bed.

The Shadow Man on the Stairs

Now I've experienced a lot of different supernatural activity throughout my life. OK well it was in the summer time, and I had just gotten my room in the attic, away from my two sisters. Our house is very old so it wasn't built with central air, my room was a hot mess so I didn't sleep up there often until I got my air conditioner.

The nights that I wouldn't sleep up there I slept in my sister's room. For some unparticular reason I slept on her floor that night. I liked to sleep on hard things sometimes. Well the way that our house is when you walk up our steps her room is the top of the stairs, the first room that you see, and she didn't have a door. I laid my pallet out on the floor to sleep on, in front of her door way directly looking down the stairs. This was weird of course. I don't know why I was sleeping that way.

I peacefully feel asleep that night and just I woke up three hours later. Something woke me up and not by a tap or a shake or sound just by instinct. When I opened my eyes I directly looked down the steps, and to my astonishment there was a dark figure standing at the bottom of our steps. The dark figure was shaped like a tall man, a shadowy tall man. Head touching the ceiling tall and he had an old hat on, a hat with the rim around it like an old 'back in the day (player's) hat'. Behind it was a very bright light, the light was a orangish-yellowish color but very bright.

Of course I was terrified but It didn't say anything and didn't move. It didn't even have a face it just stood there looking at me. I didn't know how to react. I didn't want to scream because I didn't want it to come after me. I just laid there in terror hoping it would just disappear, but it didn't. So I just put the covers over my head and made myself go back to sleep.

Shadows and Things Moving

Some strange things have been happening in my house over the last few years mainly targeted at my 13 year old daughter.

The first thing I remember was when she said she left something on her bed and it was gone and I jokingly said, "oh someone must have come in and taken it". I shouted out "put it back now," as I searched the floor and next a small doll fell off her shelf and hit my head. We were both shocked but I laughed and shouted it again and then there was a loud bang in the other bedroom. Anyway, later the missing item appeared at the side of the bed where we had previously looked.

Another day when I walked into her room her glasses shot off the shelf past me and onto the floor for no apparent reason.

On Halloween last we were all going to bed after watching Most Haunted Live. It was 2:40 and my daughter was in her room when she shouted, "oh my god!" When I shouted, "what," she said, "oh nothing". The same thing happened a minute later and then after about another minute she came running in terrified and said a hair band on her bed moved. She thought she imagined it the first time on account of watching that program and tried not to look but when it happened twice more she knew it was real. I made excuses to her as to what could have made it happen as I do every time something strange happens and went into her room and looked at the bed, and sure enough after a few seconds I clearly saw it move.

A few weeks ago she into the kitchen in the dark and saw a shooting blue light go from the left corner of the floor to the right ceiling. She also has told me recently that she sees black shadows regularly in the house. They are not large but up to one or two feet. I would see a look come on her face and ask what's wrong and she would say "nothing", but eventually she decided to tell me. She isn't afraid so I don't think it's anything bad. What could this all be? (These are only a few of the things that happened)

The Lingering Shadow

Hi, my name is Trisha and this happened when I was a bout 10 or 11 years old, it was a sunny day and kinda cloudy too and I was on the computer in my moms room. Almost right behind her desk is a window and if you sit down at her computer the windows behind you. Anyway, one day when I was on the computer I was playing a game and she has a spinning chair and I started spinning around while I waited for it to load. I spun around to where I was looking out the window and I just sat there and looked out the window. I turned half way around and this shadowy figure walked, or floated by one. I just ignored it and then I saw it again but this time it was moaning. It was really scary.

Later that night I was laying in my bed (my mom lets us keep our TV on all night so if we get up in the middle of the night we can see). I was turned toward the wall and I turned back over and there it was again sitting on my sisters bed. I just laid there petrified. It just stared at me. I finally got tired and fell asleep and nothing has never happened like that again!

Coast To Coast Ghosts:

True Stories of Hauntings Across America

This is one of the best books I've read about true ghost stories. The writer reaches right in and grabs your attention...making you feel like your right there, experiencing these events right along with the helpless victims sharing their lives with these spirits. Included with the ghostly tales are a listing of haunted colleges and information to "signs that a place is haunted". It was wonderful to read that this writer was not just writing about other peoples experiences, but she includes several of her own personal experiences with ghosts...making me realize that she just didn't interview and write, she was sympathetic to something she understood to be true, something she has personally experienced. I would highly recommend this book to all that are crazy about reading true ghost stories. Fantastic writer! Hope to see more books from Leslie Rule in the future on this subject! ~ Kimberly L. Shadow Man in Bennettsville

It was in 2008 and I was coming in from my job at bi-lo in Bennettsville and my family were all asleep and the house was dark except for the night light in the living room. I walked into my room and I felt as if someone was watching me and I just happened to look up at my TV which is in the air on a stand. I saw a shadow of a tall man in old clothes go by, really fast. I didn't see his face but he was tall. I went in the living room and no one was around but you could feel coldness in the room. He has also turned off the bathroom lights three times and messed with the TV in the living room.

He has been seen a many times but in different locations around the house. We believe it is an old settler from the 1700's, who had a plantation and made peace with the Indians. My neighbors have had encounters with Indian drums and two girls in white walk down the hall of their house.

Our land is rich in history and even found a piece of a gravestone behind our house in a field. It is positive that something is haunting our house but it comes and goes every so often. Like for months it will be quiet and then it will be active for weeks and so on. It has never threatened us before but we let it do it's routine.

Shadow Person Visits in the Night

One night, I was in bed sleeping when I was awoke by a strange noise. As I tossed and turned, trying to go back to sleep, I could feel someone tapping my shoulder. I tried to ignore it. I was full of fear, but the tapping was become more frequent and not so much as tapping, but now pushing. I looked to see what was trying to get my attention. There was nothing, I was scared.

I turned on the light. When I turned round, I caught something out of the corner of my eye. As I looked back to see if I had actually saw something, I had. In the corner of my room, sitting on the computer seat, underneath my television was a smoky, shadow like thing. It couldn't be my shadow though. I was sitting in my bed (my bed is one of those beds you have a couch underneath which turns into another bed).

As the smoky, shadow like thing became clearer and clearer. I could make out my best friend. It couldn't be her though. She had died two months ago. As you can guess I was freaked out. She got up and walked over to the door, opened the door and walked out. I got out of the bed and climbed down the ladders as fast as possible. I looked out into the hallway. No one was there.

Can I just say my story probably isn't very believable because I'm 12 but trust me IT IS true. Also if your wondering what my friend died of, she was ran over by a car.

Visited by a Shadow Entity

I am not an overly religious person, but I need some insight into a shadow figure that has been making it's presence felt more frequently. At first I was afraid of it. But I no longer am. It appears at night, only in my bedroom and seems to like to lay beside me, or make indentations on my bed and gently shake my mattress. It sometimes even jumps over me to get to the right side of the bed. It walks into the kitchen and I can hear it's foot steps. It bangs on walls, shakes the windows and sometimes makes moaning sounds. But it is strange because this figure has appeared in my now ex husbands dreams and in my ex boyfriends dreams.

Several years ago I dreamt I saw it watching me, watching it through my bedroom window as my husband and I slept. They both have never met, but they both told me the same dream characteristics, "a black figure was kidnapping you from me and I couldn't fight it." Subsequently after each of us had these dreams, our relationship ended (nothing to do with the dream).

I wonder if the entity is actually following me from place to place and relationship to relationship. Last night when it appeared, I moved over to the right side of the bed so that it could lay down on the left side, then I said good night and it made a pressure indentation in the mattress next to me. I then went back to sleep. Am I crazy, or is this real. It has been more frequent over the past four years.

The Shadow in my Window

I was born in Daytona, Florida and this is a very true story that not many have heard. One day when I was riding a tri-cycle, I had just got it, I had to leave with my mother to go to the grocery store. I was not happy about having to leave the little bike.

When I looked up into my bedroom window I saw a shadowy figure that was just looking at me with red eyes. I had told a friend about this and this friend is very religious and he told me that what I had seen was a hell hound. What a hell hound is in short is a server of the figure some call death or the grim reaper, (who I also believe exists).

The strange thing was that I was not scared of the figure in my window even with being at such a young age. The thing seemed only like it was looking at me, not planning to hurt me. If it was indeed a hell hound in my room then it must have had plenty of chances.

I have seen shadows my entire life of different looking things. I am still to this day more curious than afraid of things like ghosts and demons. Whatever was in my room that day, well maybe I will find out. And I am not asking you to believe my story, you can call me an idiot, stupid, or attention seeking. But what have I got to gain or lose for telling you?

The Oxford Book of Victorian Ghost Stories

The Victorians excelled at telling ghost stories. In an age of rapid scientific progress, the idea of a vindictive past able to reach out and violate the present held a special potential for terror. Throughout the nineteenth century, fictional ghost stories developed in parallel with the more general Victorian fascination with death and what lay beyond it. Though they were as much a part of the cultural and literary fabric of the age as imperial confidence, the best of the stories still retain their original power to surprise and unsettle. In Victorian Ghost Stories, the editors map out the development of the ghost story from 1850 to the early years of the twentieth century and demonstrate the importance of this form of short fiction in Victorian popular culture. As well as reprinting stories by supernatural specialists such as J. S. Le Fanu and M. R. James.

Shadow Man in the Cemetery

There was one night where my mom, my mom's friend and four of my friends had decided to take a trip to our town's supposedly haunted cemetery. Well, we were already scared before we even arrived. However, we were determined to take a walk through the cemetery while our parents waited in the car. We all tried to hold hands in this big group as we walked the gravel roads.

Soon we were by the railroad tracks. And out of nowhere, we all see this man standing by a grave. He wasn't any hue or color. He was almost like a standing shadow.

We ran as fast as we could. We made it to the car, but the night was not over yet.

My mother and I walked up to a small mausoleum, holding hands of course. We knock on the doors for no apparent reason and suddenly we hear this growl. Now, remind you, there are no wild animals where we live. But this was coming from inside.

When we ran to the car, we got inside and the lights weren't working and neither was our flashlight. Something spooky was at the cemetery that night, but we'll never know what.

Shadows and Voices

I've lived in my house for about nine months now, and everything seemed normal until about two weeks ago when I started hearing voices and seeing dark figures dart past me. This isn't the first time I've had an experience with the paranormal.

It started after one day when I was going to meet my friend by her locker (in the basement of my school) when there was this little silhouette of what looked like a kitten. I wasn't alone in the hallway, but I was the only one to see the figure. So, like in every scary movie that involves a ghost, I walked towards it, curious. When I finally reached where it was, it was gone. I kept my eyes only on that small figure, but it slowly moved towards the wall.

That day when I got home, I was alone, and I was about to turn on the TV when I heard 'Don't'. At first I just thought it was my imagination, but then I went for the remote again and I heard the voice again, only a little louder. I left the TV alone and decided to go for a walk.

Now, I'll hear the voice, only it'll be muffled sometimes and recently I've seen dark figures, and shadows dart across the wall every now and then. My mom thinks that I should return to a therapist and that I should be put back on my meds (which I've been off of for almost a year). I'm not going to deny that it could be my mind, but I would see these kind of things like a year ago.

Recurring Dream of the Dark Man

A Shadow Creature Experience

I have had a recurring dream my entire life involving the dark man. I may sound crazy, but something about this dream is different than any other dream I have. I'm starting to think there's something to it and I'd like to know if it strikes a chord with anyone else.

I live out in the country surrounded by woods, so at night it is dark and quiet. I've lived there for 26 years. The only light is the street light in the driveway. All of my life I've had an inexplicable fear of the back corner of our property. Something down there scares the crap out of me. Anyway, in my dream, it's nighttime and I am in the driveway under the street light. I'm alone and it's completely quiet except for the frogs and crickets. At first there is no wind and it is muggy and hot. But then, from the back of the property comes a howl like a wolf. All the crickets and frogs stop and the wind picks up fiercely. Then (I know this is bizarre but follow me) a man dressed like a Tibetan monk grabs my shoulder and says the following verbatim: "He is coming, but do not fear him. If you do, his eyes will take you." He then returns to a circle of men in monk garb and joins in a weird chant with them.

Then I look back towards the woods and a black wind sweeps through the trees. The monks chant louder and he appears. The best way I can describe him is that the wind took the form of a man with some sort of wide brim hat (totally creeps me out to read everyone else mentioning the hat).

Two things I should mention is that he seemed to have no form at all, just a shade or something. Kinda' smoke like, but shaped sorta like a man. He was more than just dark. It's like he was a walking black hole or something. The other thing was his eyes. He never spoke, just drifted up to me. Face to face. His eyes were burning red (not green like a lot of other accounts). He just stared into my eyes and even though I couldn't make out a mouth, he seemed to be smiling.

Just then I heard a baby screaming and he vanished. That's when I awake.

There are other dreams I have about him, but that's the basis of my experience. Always there is a child, and always there are people dressed as monks chanting. I've never been a fanatic for premonitions or dream phenomenon, but I'm starting to think there is something to this thing. Get back to me on that.

The Shadow Ghost in my House

Hi, my name is Elizabeth I am 14 and this is my ghost story. Well it was on a stormy day and we had a black out, it was me, my sister Ashley (the oldest), my sister Mackenzie (3rd youngest), and my other little sis. During the black out everyone gathered downstairs in the dining room to play cards or something and my mom sent me to look for some candles and flashlights to use until the power came back on.

I went upstairs, into the closet, grabbed the stuff and came back down. So we played cards for a while until about 9:00 or 9:30. We started setting up beds in the dining room so everyone was together. Before everyone went to bed we got a call saying that the power wasn't going to turn on until 10:00 pm. So then everyone got into bed, and fell asleep. But for some reason I couldn't sleep. I felt uncomfortable, like someone was watching me.

I looked around and in the living room I had seen some kind of figure. It was in a human shaped form and it was pitch black everywhere on its body, almost like a shadow. It was slowly rising from behind the couch. I know exactly what I had seen, after a bit of studying of course. I found out the ghost I had seen was something called a shadow ghost, but it wasn't my only encounter, I had more than one in this house any way. I had more encounters in some of my older houses I've lived in. So I'm kind of used to seeing these kind of things.

The Hat Man

Evil Shadow Creature

When we met with the demonologist we described this man that both my husband and I have seen at different points in our life. I had seen him a few times and my husband has seen him his whole life.

The man is a solid black figure wearing a trench coat and a hat. You cannot see his face at all.

The demonologist said this was known as "The Hat Man."

We were shocked that somebody actually knew what we were talking about. He said this was a world wide phenomenon. He said he has been researching this and that there are many people who believe these beings are actually the fallen angels. He said they are trying to get you to contract with them to allow a demon to possess you. When you reject it... they come at you in different ways. He said its actually quite sad because if you contract them you get these supernatural powers... but then most die within about 10 years because the demon actually destroys them.

He said the people become delusional and doctors think they are schizo but brain scans show they are sane. He said they usually die in a freak accident because of the delusions or end up killing something else because they actually see everything different and sometimes they just disappear. He said this is where spiritual vampires come from. He said the person could turn to God to get out of this contract but the fight is really hard because its already in your body.

This is the beginning of a discussion about a particular type of shadow creature called The Hat Man. Read the entire discussion at The Hat Man on Talk Paranormal

The Cat Shadow

The cat shadow that's here seems to stay in the living room and mostly around the couch. I've seen it walk across the back of the couch, jump up on the couch and walk along the front of the couch on the floor. And, yes it is very common here at least, I've seen it many times since we moved in here. I have a friend that has even seen it several times when she'd been here.

No, I don't mean that you discern a spirits sexuality by feeling alone. I just meant that almost every time I've seen something, I've some how sensed whether it was male or female. Sometimes the shape or even the way one moves will suggest a feminine or masculine entity.

I do sometimes define stuff by my feelings. For example, the cat shadow, I know it's a cat like creature because of the way it moves, it's more graceful and proud when it moves than a dog would be. The very first time I ever saw this particular one, my first thought was cat!

Somehow, I just usually get a sense of these things and know what they are and often what gender they are. For instance, I have one tall, thin one that just keeps repeating the same steps over and over and I sense it is a male entity. It looks like a typical shadow creature, but as I've researched and learned more about the supernatural, this creature could merely be a residual haunting.

However, I in no way believe that all supernatural things have a gender, some things I've seen, I just simply classify as evil or good and not male or female! And, yes there are some spirits, ghosts or what ever you wish to call them that are very good. I've lived with several and have actually missed them once they were no longer with me.

As far as how they look, most of the shadow creatures I've seen have just looked like a persons shadow. The same way your shadow on a wall looks if you were standing between a wall and a light. I have been able to see objects behind the shadows, but the objects are darkened by them.

Now for where they go, some I've seen through the years seem to either be confined to one area or for some particular reason, just seem to prefer to stay in one area. Others I've seen have moved around the entire house where ever they pleased to go.

I have seen them in all shapes and sizes. In one place I've lived we all saw them, but what was really strange there was that the shadow creature would be very close to the same size as the person who saw it. My boyfriend at the time was 6'3" and when he saw them they were as tall as him. My youngest son was 5 and when he saw them they were the same height as him. And, when I saw them they were my height. That's the only place where I've had shadow creatures that appeared to be the same size of the person seeing them, every other time they've just always been various sizes.

I have even seen them that were the size of quarters, golf balls and oranges. I've seen these dart across the walls and have many times thought a big bug or spider was crawling across the wall, but it wasn't it was a shadow.

This is the beginning of a discussion about a shadow creature that appears to be a cat. Read the entire discussion at Haunted's Shadow Cat on Talk Paranormal

Shadow Creatures

Several of the places I've lived have had Shadow creatures, just like the name implies they just look like the shadows of someone or something. The first time I actually noticed them was when my youngest son was five years old. He called them Shadow Creatures all the time, when I searched them online, Shadow Creatures are exactly what most people call them.

We lived in a different apartment at that time and the Shadow Creatures were different than the ones we've seen here. The size of them depended on who saw them! Usually always the shadow was about the same size as ever which one of us that saw it.

Most of them were in a human shape, but now and then you'd get a glimpse out of the corner of your eye of what looked like a dog or cat walking by. At times there was even just very small shadows darting across the walls that you'd think were bugs.

We'd came home from the store one day and when we walked in the door, my son said, Look Mom a shadow creature. I barely seen it dart into the wall, but it had been standing at the coffee table and he said it was looking around on the table.

Where we live now we've seen several of these shadows to. The weird thing is that other people have saw the same exact things we've seen. Several of the people I've had visiting me have seen and described the same things we see all the time.

I have one here that is slightly tall and looks sort of skinny, it's always been seen going from the hallway to the kitchen. I've never seen it going the other way or any other place. It makes me kind of wonder if maybe they somehow get stuck in a certain place and keep repeating the same movements over and over.

We also have a "pet" shadow creature, I'd just started seeing it in maybe the past month. It's about a foot tall or less and for some reason I just know it's a cat, or at least a cat like creature. There will be times I see it several times a day, then it will go for days and I don't see it at all. Then it's running around here several times a day again.

These things, what ever they are don't seem to be scary, they've never made the hair stand up on the back of my neck like some things have. They do get a little annoying now and then though.

Yes they are paranormal but, they are harmless. Where we live on the edge of town we see them atleast once or twice a week. We just had one two nights ago. My wife and I were on the front deck smoking around 10p. All of a sudden my wife said "Did you see that?" I said " o you see it too huh?" there was one over behind a big oak tree and it kept look out from behind it from one side than the other. It was really cool watching it.

When I was thirteen (I'm 16 now) I lived in this trailer where there were two shadow people. The one, when everyone was awake stayed in the hall by the small bathroom, but when everyone was asleep it roamed the house and usually hurt me in some way; scratches and burns. The other one was a little girl anywhere between the ages of four and seven. She usually stayed in my mom's room and the kitchen/dining room, she wore a party dress that was popular for little girls to wear in the fifties. There was one night that my little sister was sleeping in my mom's room and the rest of us were in the living room, about 12:00 I saw a little girl run from my mom's room to behind the kitchen table, thinking it was my little sister I went to go get her and put her back to bed, but when I got there she wasn't there so I went to my mom's room and saw that my little sister was fast asleep. That time I was the only one awake. My cousin has also seen the little girl and everyone seems to like her.

i've seen two shadow people. one was definately a man and the other was looking in the front storm door window, but had no idenifying traits because it looked like it was wearing a hoodie. the first one, the man was in my dining room and behind him was a sunny window. i don't know what made me glance in that direction, but when i did a double-take, he was gone. i couldn't see his lower body because of the pool table but it was definately a man, also his face was blacked out too. my boyfriend and i have seen a residule victorian woman and i saw the shadowed people. i've seen similar residule, all women, in other locations in this town.

I am on the fence about shadow people, when ever I see something out of the corner of my eye, I will look and nothing is ever there. But yet a movement caught my attention,
