An Amazing Trading Card Game

Shadow Era is a free online multiplayer collectable card game developed by Wolven Game Studios.

The game is multiplatform, running on iPhone, Android, Mac and PC. With one account you can play seamlessly on a variety of devices.

Its easy to play, but difficult to master. So its accessible to the novice, but requires deep strategy to really advance.

There is gorgeous artwork for all the cards. The creator used the best artists from deviantART and had a coherent and beautiful set of cards made. New cards are being released every few months.

What its Like

A comparison of TCG/CCGs

If you are into Trading Card Games/ Collectable Card Games, you'll know Magic The Gathering and World of Warcraft TCG. The rules vary in each of them.

Shadow Era differentiates fundamentally from the other online card games in that it was specifically designed as an online game, rather than having been adapted from a paper card game. This means its structure is more efficient for online gameplay, giving it better game flow. This doesn't mean strategy is done away with, it just looks different. (For example, instead of there being interrupt cards played to interfere with your attacks as in MTG and WoW TCG, SE focuses on the defender having their defenses interrupted.)

Here are the major differences between games:
With Magic, you use coloured lands to play. WoW and Shadow Era you sacrifice lands. In MTG blocking is fully integrated, WoW has some integration, and SE is designed without it to speed up gameplay. MTG and WoW TCG use simultaneous combat resolution, where as Shadow Era uses traditional RPG first strike style. MTG and WoW have interrupt cards that can be played anytime. SE has hidden play cards that automatically interact under certain situations.

A TCG Designed for Online Play

How it All Works

You play Shadow Era using a set of cards that you collect. You start with enough crystals (the in-game currency) to purchase a set of cards. The main sets are preconstructed with common cars and includes two Heros, one of whom is your in game character you play as. There is also a booster pack that can be chosen with fewer, but less common cards.

There are several card sets and each falls into Human or Shadow faction. You can choose from Human Warrior, Human Hunter, Human Mage, Human Priest and Human Rouge, or Shadow Warrior, Shadow Hunter, Shadow Mage, Shadow Wulven, Shadow Elemental.

You can play Shadow Era on your own against the AI and go through the storyline, and you can also play online with a massive number of players. Switching back and forth is seamless, and you can use the same cards, so it all seems like play is part of the same story.
