The Shadow Self needs to be merged

I learnt a long time ago that we hold two different aspects of our self. All of us have a darker side and a lighter side.

One of my favorite authors is Lynn Andrews. She is a Shaman and was trained by the Sisterhood of the Shields. In one of her book called Dark Sister she explains the dark side of a woman's power.

This book speaks about how a woman's emotion can reflect the turmoil that she is experiencing in her life. She goes on to explain how each of us needs to Merge both sides together to become whole. From experience, I can tell you this is not an easy task.

I believe it is just a thought process within us. When most people think of the darker side of who they are, it is mainly viewed as an evil side or a wicked side. It is the wild side of who we are, that is more daring, more adventurous, more willing to explore the "Void". None, of this makes us evil or wicked. The Golden rule of life is: "And ye harm none, do what you will."

Many times we are willing to have fun, but that deep inner voice makes you feel guilty and sometimes feel a little naughty. It takes All of who we are to be who we are. When the Light Side merges with the Dark Side, together they create a balance that every one of us need!

And we do this why?

By merging our dark & light sides together; this enables us to exist on a different level within our selves. What we are doing is Honoring the Divine Within with the strength and courage you have gained through your experiences. But it also teaches you your strengths as a woman, you are not a lower being and you should never submit to being so.

The Shadow Self explained in this lens is just a small journey I believe each of us need to walk in order to become whole within.

My thoughts about the Shadow Self.

I believe that our own personal experiences can cause our Shadow Self to be more dominate or not. From my own experiences in life, I have found that I have created Defense Shields that fit me like a pair of gloves. It feels as if they have been carved into my spirit and when something happens it makes a part of me surface that is not so nice.

One of the hardest things to come to terms with; is realizing none of us are perfect. Every single one of us has imperfections; mainly due to the fact that we are a product of our environment. The key to our imperfections and our defense shields is understanding a fragment of who we are is our Shadow Self.. If we are unhappy with it, we have the abilities to change it; but it will always be a part of who we are.

I believe many of our imperfections; like jealousy, fear of abandonment, loneness, guilt and tempers are all to do with things we have experienced. And many times we find by creating these Defense Shields they become a way for us to protect ourselves.

Our Shadow Self is a very important part of who we are. It is where our strength and our courage derive from. When you reach that part of yourself that says it is time to become whole, it is a time to accept all of who you are, it is the day you will finally merge together symbolically speaking.

I remember the day it happened to me as if it was yesterday. I was meditating, and in this meditation I seen myself walking a trail and I came face to face with myself. As I looked into the eyes of my other self, it felt as if this powerful force blended both of our energies together in one fast movement.

The whole concept of merging the Shadow Self ; is to complete who you are. To forgive yourself for the things you have done that make you feel ashamed. It is a process to forgive, honor and love yourself as you are today. It is a step to accept the things you have done, and move forward to create new adventures that make you happy.

There is no part of you that change what happened yesterday. There is no part of you that knows what tomorrow will bring. But today it is in our power to create a path that will help to enlighten us, and draw us closer to the Divine.

So although many see the Shadow Self as a negative aspect of who they are, it is actually the Shadow Self that allows us to become a better individual when we learn from our experiences.

Turbulent Waters
©WhiteOak 09-2008

Turbulent waters are running fast-
Trying to catch up with emotions that soon will past.
Cool crisp mornings that are filled with comfort and joy-
While the rest of the day feels very coy.

Sitting against a tree-
I wait to see if the turbulent waters will ease.
Moonlit skies in the night-
I wait patiently for Dreamtime to take me into flight.

Dreamtime takes me to a place of peace-
Where everything turbulent comes to a cease.
Dreamtime is a place of total joy-
Most of the time, unless you open the door.
The door that holds back the turbulent emotions you try to escape from-
Where nothing is worst, than your dreamtime becoming numb.

Black holes trying to cover emotions that are terrifying and weak-
I am not the type to be silent and meek.
So where is the balance in the turbulent waters for me?
I try to allow what is, to be.
But the rushing of the turbulent waters move real fast-
Upon a still inner peace that only wants to last.

Is not a Rose

Is not a Rose a beautiful flower?
Does it not smell beautiful and sweet?
What happens when you grab for a rose and get stuck with a thorn?
Does that make the flower ugly?

A Rose is a wonderful example of the shadow self.
It is soft with its velvet texture,
It smells as wonderful as it taste,
but its darker side will stick you deep,
if you grab it before looking for thorns!

What do you think?

It was a difficult task, for me to merge the "good" with the "bad". It was a long, painful journey - but one I am most thankful I walked. Thank you for sharing your marvelous insights My Friend.

Yes, when we try to deny or ignore our shadows then they become more powerful than they should. When we work with them, we can keep the parts of them that are good and work to down play the rest. Always good to be self aware. 5*
