South Carolina State Dance - The Shag

In 1984, The Shag became the official South Carolina State Dance. There is even a SC Shaggers Hall of Fame. The Shag originated on the coast of South Carolina and is still the most popular dance in the state.

I remember learning to shag at home in the late 1950's. We danced with our mother, our sisters, and with the doorknob! No kidding! We danced before school and after school. We had parties in each other's homes. We danced in carports, garages and boy scout huts. Wonderful high school memories!
