Shakin' Stevens
Shakin Stevens was my favourite artist when I was younger, but unlike many other artists he wasn't an overnight success. Shakin Stevens paid his dues in the music industry for 10 years before he had his first hit single.
Shakin Stevens started out in the group 'Shakin Stevens and The Sunsets' who first went professional in 1969, they released 13 singles but none of them made it big. Shakin Stevens and The Sunsets parted company in 1977.
After breaking up from The Sunsets Shakin Stevens went on to produce solo records. He also appeared in a Jack Good West End Musical which was revamped into a television show called 'Oh Boy', this was the turning point in Shakin Stevens long struggle for success. His second single "Somebody Touched Me" made it into the top 40 in Australia but it wasn't until his 8th solo release that he started to make it big. His eighth single was "Hot Dog" which had of course been featured in 'Oh Boy' and the rest we say is history.
Shakin Stevens had 39 hit singles, 36 of which were consecutive, and in the UK alone achieved four Number 1s and three Number 2s.

Hot Dog was Shakin Stevens first hit single, a song that he had performed on the TV show 'Oh Boy'. The show rocketted him to the star status that he had worked so hard to get.

One of the more popular misconceptions of Shakin Stevens was that he wore crepe shoes, more commonly known as Brothel Creepers which were worn by bands such as Showaddywaddy and The Stray Cats.
If Shaky had in fact worn these shoes he would have done himself a micheif as he adopted the rubbery leg style of Elvis Presley which is not really a compatible style with these big clumsy shoes.

Shakin Stevens - This Ole House
This Ole House was Shakin Stevens first number one hit. The song was originally penned by singer/songwriter, Stuart Hamblen, after finding the dead body of an old prospector in a tumbledown shack. A lot of people believe that Shaky took this record from Rosemary Clooney but it was the recording by the US band NRBQ which first brought the song to his attention.

Shakin Stevens - You Drive Me Crazy
Shakin Stevens' next hit was denied the number one spot by Adam and The Ants song Stand and Deliver. Adam Ant was right, he was a dandy highwayman because he robbed Shaky of the number one spot.
Shakin Stevens - Mona Lisa
Shakin Stevens next single was only released in Japan (but it did appear on the album Shaky). This song was also a hit for the immortal Nat King Cole.

Shakin Stevens's It's Late was also another ground breaker for Shaky, it was also released as a game on the ZX Spectrum with both the game and the song on the tape. I know this for a fact because I bought the game (it was absolute rubbish) but I don't think i still have it (pity though because it might be worth something).

Im not sure wether this was Shaky's first single that was made into a 12" single, but it is the first one that i remember having a remix. If I remember correctly it was Louongo's Remix and it was six and a half minutes long.

- This actually takes me 20 years back in time and I LOVE it! Thanks for doing that with Shakin Stevens, which definitely was one of my favorite singers. Now in 2007 I like James Morrisson and our own Boris a lot!
