In depth review of the shamwow
My Honest review of the shamwow product:When I first heard of shamwow it was a late night advertisement where Vince (the shamwow guy) seemed to be all over the place with his cocky and funny attitude and I mainly watched just due to the entertainment factor of the infomercial. I believe the shamwow infomercial is now No. 1 of all time as far as amount of viewers and ratings go. Initially I thought that if the shamwow has to resort to being sold late night on tv then that must mean that most stores like Wal-Mart and target didn't believe in the product (meaning bad right?)
After seeing the shamwow infomercial on TV at a later date I went to an expo/fair/outdoor event called the Calgary Stampede in Alberta Canada and to my surprise shamwow had a booth set up to essentially recreate the same shamwow demo that you see on TV, I walked over there to congratulate vice (the shamwow guy) on entering the big leagues but unfortunately he had one of his helpers doing the show instead. I stood in the back and watched the cheesy drama unfold and I was impressed, he followed the shamwow infomercial to the T and yes he spilt pop all over a rug and yes the shamwow really did clean it up just like the show. So after the Shamwow demo I got caught up in the hype and yes ended up purchasing one. Right after leaving the Calgary stampede I remember looking at this big rolled up orange thing and thinking to myself did I really just spend 20 bucks on an orange rag!?
The very next cleaning day I decided to at least use the damn shamwow that I feel I spent too much on, so I started in the kitchen and noticed it is a very durable product cleaning up stuck on dirt on my stove and countertops, I then used the shamwow in the bathroom getting the soap scum from around my sink and bathtub of course this whole time that I was using the shamwow it was damp so when I went outside to dry off my car I used a dry one thinking it would act the same way but I noticed that it left streaks behind (Very disappointed since The shamwow infomercial said it works both wet and dry) so I had to do 2 things 1. Dampen the shamwow before drying my car (funny thought eh? And 2. Wash my car with a streak free cleaner (you will still get spots if you don't dry it properly like with a damp shamwow).
Fast forward five years later (today)
I still use the shamwow on a weekly basis and yes it is still the same sham wow that I bought 5 years ago, and although it looks like it's been thoroughly used they are still in 1 piece and without any holes in them, the shamwow still suck up and cleans better than any paper towel ever did for me and over this time my friends and family have also picked up the shamwow so I have been able to put together this pros and cons list by listening to them and researching online. PROs and CONs
The shamwow is a very durable product that will last you many years and will save you tons of money on paper towels
By using the shamwow instead of disposable products you are reducing your own personal waste and lowering your carbon "footprint" on the earth
Having 2 colors of shamwow you can use one color for things you want just clean and the other one for things that you plan on eating off of like the blue shamwow for the bathroom and the orange shamwow for the kitchen
The shamwow sucks up liquid better than any other thing on the market that I have come across
You get lots of shamwows in a pack so you can have one everywhere you need one I keep one at my front and back door for wet shoes one in the kitchen one in the bathroom I have one to clean/dust my office and another 2 in my car for drying off after a carwash and the other for drying myself off quickly after work (I work outside I'm a place that rains a lot)
Shamwow Cons:
Sham - "it leaves streaks on my car when I'm trying to dry it off"
Wow - Although the commercial said the shamwow works both dry and wet I believe it works best slightly damp, also try using a streak free cleaner when washing.
Sham - "The shamwow is just made of felt why would I spend any money on that"
Wow - from my research I have found that the shamwow is actually made of 100% rayon, a semisynthetic material that gets woven together in such a way to promote better liquid absorption and retention but resembles felt to the touch
Sham - "I bought a shamwow from the dollar store and it's a piece of crap"
Wow - There are a lot of shamwow knock offs out there and as far as I know they still only sell the product online and through the phone service they use, If it dosent work you probably got a knock off.
Sham - "20 dollars for an orange rag!?" (heh, I said this one)
Wow - over the 5 years that I have used the shamwow I saved hundreds of dollars and prevented lots of wasted paper towels in the process
Sham - "the shamwow mop is junk, it broke after 1 month"
Wow - mine too! The cloth is made in Germany but I think the mop is made in china. Instead use a Swiffer and a regular shamwow to do the mopping
