The Garden Trug

Welcome to the humble trug, where you will find a large selection of trugs available for your viewing. I scoured the internet and put this extensive collection of trugs together for easier viewing. The trugs are from suppliers both in the UK and USA.

Many people do not know what a trug is or they have seen one but do not know the name. I was one of those people, I had seen one and wanted one but did not know the name. When I was looking for my trug I did not realize there were so many to choose from and now I have three!

Just click on any of the links and it will take you straight to the suppliers site where you can purchase the trug of your choice. There are ornate trugs that can be used around the home for decoration to the more traditional Sussex trug and the modern plastic practical trugs. Happy browsing, I hope you enjoy looking and I'm sure there is a trug that is perfect just for you

There are so many different trugs to choose, from the practical to the ornate. They come in many shapes and sizes and are made from lots of different materials. The price range varies quite a bit too, from a plastic molded one to handmade to special order.

The history of the humble garden trug

http://www.greenchronicle.co.uk/acatalog/Royal_Sussex.html

The trug was a reinvention of the "Trog" A "Trog" was a wooden vessel, shaped like a coracle boat that was used by the Anglo Saxon's. These were very heavy due to the way they were made. They were used by Sussex Farmers to measure out grains and liquids. In 1820 Thomas Smith re-invented the "Trog" Where he made a lightweight basket out of sweet chestnut and cricket bat willow and it became know as the Trug.
