Decorating Tips and Trends... Using The Concept's Of Feng Shui

By Sharon Stajda

Color, Room Flow, Furniture Placement...

Is your bedroom a peaceful haven? Is your bedroom a comfortable retreat that provides you with a place for rest and romance? Do bedroom | zenyou emerge from your bedroom each morning feeling refreshed, and ready for the day ahead? If you have answered no to any of these questions, a little feng shui may be just the thing you need to consider for your bedroom.

Feng shui —(pronounced fung shway) which means "wind and water" is the ancient Chinese art of placement. The goal of Feng shui  is to enhance the flow of chi (life force or spiritual energy), and to ultimately create a harmonious environment. An environment  that will lend to support of good health, beckon wealth, and invite happiness into ones life. At its most basic level, feng shui is a decorating tool or discipline based on the belief that our surroundings affect us in many ways.

In ones bedroom, "Feng shui can help you arrange the space to support ultimate rest, and connection with your partner and with yourself.  Whether promote feng shui's philosophy or not, many of its helpful principles make good design sense.

Always Choose Calming Colors That Welcome...

Feng shui "passion colors" like red and pink in the bedroom are a recipe for romance.

If you want your bedroom to be welcoming, Feng shui practitioners recommend warm, rich earth and skin tones such as terra cotta, copper, coral, cream, peach, tan and cocoa to create a cozy, welcoming atmosphere. Prefer a quiet tranquil bedroom, that is inviting, and gives off healing energy? Choose soft natural colors like greens, light blues, and pale lavenders. These soothing colors will lend to peaceful haven. Love bright colors? Well, keep them to your other rooms. Reds and oranges are typically associated with yang - the masculine half of the yin, and yang energy - is too stimulating for a room of rest.

With that said ... Pink and red are the colors of romance. Using them in the bedroom can increase romance in a relationships. So- it is smart to limit these passionate colors to accent pieces around the room. Try some passion colors in the form of sheets, pillows, throws and other linens. If red is just not for you, try burgundy, magenta, eggplant or pomegranate.

Position The Bed ...

In feng shui, the "commanding position" for the bed is as far away from the bedroom door as possible, but you should still be able to keep an eye on the room's entrance. This gives you a sense of safety, while you sleep.

1.Try not to position your bed under the lower angle of a pitched ceiling, a heavy beam or a ceiling fan. These room features are thought to contain depressing energy. Energies that may leave you l with the feeling that the room is pushes down on you while you sleep. If you have no optimal choices, one may use a bed canopy or lengths of fabric suspended from the ceiling to cure this problem.

2. Try to avoid positioning your bed under a window. A window lacks the symbolic support and protection of a solid wall. This lack of solid wall behind you as you sleep can lead to a fitful nights sleep, as it is belived energy can enters and exits through a window.

3. Headboards, especially solid ones made from wood, are considered very best of good feng shui, because they provide additional strength and support behind your head. Footboards, are seen as blocking forward progress in life. So do without a footboard or keep it very low.

4. Whatever you do, make sure your feet don't point out the door while in bed. In traditional Chinese culture, this is called the "Death Position" due to a deceased body is carried out feet first. It is also thought sleeping this way can drain your life force. If you can't avoid this problem, use a footboard or other piece of furniture at the foot of your bed. This will act as a buffer.

5. Most importantly leave enough room around the bed for energy to flow freely, and for each person to get up with good ease.

Keep Away From Sharp Corners - stick to soft curves

Opt for Curves, Not Corners
When shopping for bedroom furniture choose pieces with soft lines and curvilinear forms. Is is believed square corners have pointed energy and can create a sharp environment. The "poison arrows" formed by right angles are thought to direct negative energy directly at your sleeping form, which can cause a feeling of uneasiness, experts say. If you are decorating with your present nightstand, you can soften its corners by draping a piece of flowing fabric over the top or placing a plant on top, that leaves will cascad over the sharp corners.

Also-limit what's on your nightstand. A lamp, a book, try to keep down the cluter.

Rid The Room Of Clutter...

Clear out the Clutter
From a feng shui perspective, clutter symbolizes unfinished business and impedes forward progress in life. So keep furnishings on the spare side and clear out the clutter. This will enable chi to flow freely around your bedroom.

Tip: Plants placed in corners are said to stop energy from stagnating. Never use the space under your bed to store boxes. Doing so will block energy flow, and lead to stagnation in life, feng shui experts warn.

Clutter under the bed develops its own energy, and is thought to disturb sleep. Never keep work related item's in your bedroom.

Take a minute to consider what memories are associations with objects in your bedroom? Are the memories pleasant? If not get rid of that object. Rid your room of any item that holds negative memories from your past life. These negative item's are believed to hold on to negative energy, which will make the room unpleasant.

Less is more also applies to the closet.Clutter behind closet doors can be just as depleting as clutter that's in the open bedroom. Organizing your closet can help give one a good sense of control over their life.

Hey Remember Your Closet? Is it a sorce of clutter...

The Dreaded Day Has Arrived --Time To Clean The Closet...

The Dreaded Day Has Arrived --Time To Clean The Closet...
Do you feel the pangs of dread when you approach your closet? Is your closet an enemy, that when opened heaps artillery of clothing at you? Perhaps your closets is not quit working for you? Cloths enter it pressed and neat, but somehow they always come out a wrinkled mess. Does this problem have you lugging out the ironing board much to frequently? These are all tell tail sigh and symptoms that you need to clean that closet out. Its time to tackle your closet, with a plan, and get it working for you.

A Place Of Rest At The End Of The Day...

Your bedroom should provide you with a place of rest, contemplation and have intimacy. It should not be a work space or a place of exercise.

Exercise gear, phones, a television, computer or a desk piled high paperwork will give off and take up energy. These distractions can also distract you from rest and romance. The bedroom is a place where you need to turn off the stresses of the outside world.

Create A Space For Two...

Do you have only one nightstand, or space only on one side of the bed to climb in and out? This may symbolize a condition of solitude, and may actually scream that you are single, and appear to like it that way...

Its funny - I have noted on many occasions that my single friends tend to have accessories, as well as art that depict solitude? For a good example, a single flower in a vase. A painting with one person, instead of a crowd?

If you're single and don't wish to be, it is wise to decorate your bedroom as if a partner is already there, sharing the bedroom with you. A good place to start is by using the concept of Symmetry. Position nightstands and lamps on both sides of the bed. Accessorize in pairs. Use accessories that scream romance...A bunch of flowers in a vase or art depicting romance and oneness, which feng shui gurus say can help creates a "couples' energy" as well as a good sense of balance to the room. This balance will create good energy flow.

In the feng shui "map" of the bedroom, called the bagua. In a room the far right corner is the love center. Whether single or coupled, it is desirable to build a "shrine to love" in that spot. When choosing accessories make sure to include a photo of you and your mate. Set a pair of candles, a book of romantic poetry or heart-shaped box at your nightstand. These things will help create an environment that will help affirmation of your relationship goals. Plants are also a good decorating opption, make surethe leaves are rounded, never spiky. Silk plants can also be used, but keep them dust free. According to feng shui practitioners, never keep a sickly specimen or dried foliage in your home, since their symbolism is very obviously depicting aging and ill health.

A big feng shui no-no: king-sized beds. Not only do they create a physical chasm between you and your mate, but they "are split down the middle by two box springs, which creates a symbolic division between the partners. If you're not about to give up your King size bed, a red sheet may be placed over the box springs, this will help unify the two separate halves.

Your Eyes Should Fall On Objects Of Beauty

A common feng shui decorating concept is to choose art and other objects that depict things you'd like to see come into your life. Whether it be success, love or all important inner peace.

In ones bedroom, practitioners of feng shui suggest hanging your favorite piece of art on the wall opposite your bed. Making the art the last thing you see before you go to sleep, and the first thing you see when you wake up. The art should be something that invokes feelings of joy, and lends towards inspiration. Feng Shui practitioners will suggest strongly to keep family photos out of your couples bedroom. Family photos, such as pictures of your parents and your kids should be kept for other rooms in ones home. The focus of a couple room should be on yourself and your partner.

If your view from your bed is of an adjoining bathroom or a messy closet, it is always suggested you close doors or screen these views with curtains or a folding screens. Also, the toilet seat should be kept down at night, this will permit a better energy flow.

Tip: Keep mirrors away fro your beds direct view. Do not ever place a mirror above the bed.

This is a major crime against feng shui concepts. A mirror is thought to bounce too much energy around the room, and this energy will sure to take awy your good nights rest. Mirrors are also thought to thought to magnify problems and worries, that as a rule all of us have. Some feng shui practitioners even feel that mirrors in the bedroom can invite a third party to interfere in your relationship. If you have mirrored closet doors, it is felt they should be treated as a window, and curtains hung in front of them.

Bedroom Lighting Is Key...

When it comes to bedroom lighting, feng shui experts suggest flexibility. If you love lots of natural light during the day, and soft light at night, and darkness while you sleep. Exposure to sunlight the first thing in the morning can influences serotonin levels, and is said to affect you throughout the day. So it is wise to invest in window coverings/treatments that can easily open to greet the sun in the morning, and closed for privacy and darkness after nightfall. The darkened room in the evening will create a very romantic mood.

When choosing your sources for artificial light, make sure to provide illumination in variety. Include overhead lighting, as well as table and wall lights. Balance light directed downward (such as from recessed cans in the ceiling) with up-lit torchieres and sconces, this softer caste light will calm yet lift your energy. It is wise to put all the lights in the bedroom on dimmers. This will give you the power to be flexible with the lighting day and night...

Create a Sensual Bedroom - A place for just you two

In addition to creating a room that's beautiful in decor, take time to appeal to you and your mates other senses. Tip - fill your bedroom with things you love to smell, touch, taste and hear. Make the bedroom has all the pleasures the two of you enjoy. says

Light fragrant candles or use an essential-oil diffuser that you and your mate find pleasing. (lavender in known to induces relaxation, and jasmine, rose, and geranium scents are associated with love)

Invest in soft inviting linens - pure Egyptian cotton, smooth silk, soft velvet and cozy cashmere. All will wake up your sences

Sound - Relaxing music or nature sounds, is somethink you might consider? A simple wind chime outside your bedroom window may fill the space with soothing sounds.

Treat your senses to a glass of wine or a piece of chocolate before bed. Treat your mate to a delicious flavors of freshly brewed herbal tea before you turn out the lights. In the morning greet your mate with their favorite morning beverage with a warm, buttery croissants to share in bed. It will do your chi good, and get you both off with positive energy to get through the day...

Mirrors In The Bedroom - A Feng Shui No No...

It is wise to remove or cover any mirrors in the bedroom, that is when your sleeping.
It is believed that a bedroom mirror that reflects the bed can creates the most serious problems. In the case of a single person may make them less apt to attract a romantic partner. In fact, the mirror may go to double his or her solitude. A couple with a mirror reflecting the bed is more apt to attract a third person in the relationship...

Water Images...

Do not include any water images in your bedroom.
It is believed that water creates an energy field which evokes emotion. When water is used in bedroom decor, it can evoke emotions that may stir up trouble in a relationship. The turbulence of emotions may also cause a lack of passion - keep in mind, water cools down the fire. So it is smart not to decorate with any water images or fountains. Save the water item's for a place them where life is more active in your home.

What Should Hang Above Your Bed?

Be very Careful when choosing the images you hang above your bed.

What hangs above your bed needs to connect with what you dream about at night or in your life. If you are single and interested in attracting a love partner, don't hang a picture of a single person as this is not what you are dreaming of. Instead, hang an image of a loving couple.

Electromagnetic Fields -

Electromagnetic fields.
Some people unknowingly experience great problems with an electric alarm clock next to their bed. The electromagnetic field of an alarm clock can disturb ones energy, as this is constant fire energy close to the head and creates too much active energy for a time when you need to sleep, and rest properly. Place your alarm clock at least two meters from your bed. This will give a better nights sleep...

Soft Music Is Heavenly...

Create a heavenly mood with soft background music when you go to sleep. Also when you wake up. Let your ears have rest throughout the remainder of the night. Don't fall asleep with your TV on and don't wake up to the radio or TV.

How To Create Passion In Your Bedroom...

Create romance by placing images of love and romance in the southwest corner of your bedroom. This will act to help you attract a new romance or if you want to create more passion in your existing relationship. In the case of a couple, place atender image of the two of you together in that area with a little rose quartz heart nearby.

Make The Entry To Your Bedroom A smooth Non-cluttered Pathway

Create a clear entry to your bedroom by making sure that there are no clutter. Place an image at your bedroom entrance in the hallway representing what you want to manifest in your bedroom.
