My education is in the Science of Nursing. After working as a Registered Nurse for some 20 years, I have leaned a lot about the human body, and human nature. I spent many of my nursing years a s a Medical Surgical nurse. Caring for people with a wide variety of medical problem's. The last 5 years of my career I spent caring for patient's that required heart monitoring.

I have recently retired, and have been indulging in a passion I have had for years, writing...

I have devoted this Lens to a collection of articles health related subjects. My own philosophy on health care leans toward Holistic prevention, and cure.

Now--- being a nurse for so many years, I can tell you the medical treatment's of today are wonderful. We at no time in history have been able to treat, and cure so many medical decease's, and health related problem's as we can today.

In the last years of my hospital nursing, I witnessed many Physicians combining traditional medical care, with Holistic recommendation's. After so many years of observing the medical community rebuking anything remotely holistic in nature... I find this very refreshing...

When treating my own health problems, and that of my family. I first true to natural remedie's. If I do not feel I am getting the relief I seek, I turn to more traditional medical care.

I hope you will enjoy reading some of my health related articles. I have enjoyed penning them to paper...

Please leave me some feedback at my Guestbook. I would love to hear your point of view...

SAGE---It A Great Stress Fighter...

Helps to chase awy the blues...

By Sharon Stajda,

Sage is not just for bread stuffing...

Sage Is a wonderful herb that studies have shown to improve ones mood.

Sage (Salvia officinalis) is a perennial flower with lavender flowers, and leathery green leaves. Its been used for centuries in cooking and for medicinal use.
An English herbalist Gerard stated, "Sage is good for the head and brain, it quickeneth the senses and memory." Gerard said this In 1597. So you can see sage was being used as far back as the 1500s for its good properties.

What Is known about sage today? Through lab studies sage has been proven to slow the release of enzymes that are proven to break down acetylcholine. Acetylcholines are essential neurotransmitter. By inhibiting these enzymes there is good proof that it improve mood by maintaining optimal levels of acetylcholine .

Blind research studies were done by a British researchers with 30 healthy young volunteers. Some volunteers being given Sage leaf extract, some being given sugar pills. After 4 hours the volunteers that had taken the sage , were calmer and alert, than the volunteers that received the placebo.

Sage Leaf Capsules can be found in health food stores. Dose recommendation is 600mg. To be taken before a stressful event or if in stress. You may also try sage tea, To make add 1cup boiling water, with 1 teaspoon dried sage, steep, and enjoy. (Caution do not take if pregnant).

Laugh Yoga, Laugh Yourself Healthy...

  • By Sharon Stajda,

    Laugh Yoga, Laugh Yourself Healthy

Laughing Yoga, is a form of yoga that combines breathing exercises with laughter. A physician by the name of Madan Kataria developed the technique simply known as "laughter yoga in the mid-1990s." And recently this unusual form of yoga has become very popular. With Laughter Clubs popping up all over the place! There are over 5000 Laughter Clubs in 40 countries. With multitudes of members that are reaping the benefit of laughter combined with simple yoga breathing exercise.

If you have a good sense of humor, and can sustain a hardy laughter for 15 to 20 minutes without depending upon humorous stimuli, you may be a good candidate for a Laugh Club?

Is there any better feeling than that wonderful feeling you gets after you have laughed so hard you almost cried? It a feeling hard to described. It feels like a ton has been lifted off your shoulders, a feeling of total relaxation, and total well-being.

Plus Research studies have shown that when you laugh you use your stomach muscles along with chest , neck, and facial muscles. The muscles that are involved in laughing are tense while aiding you to produce that laugher. After you are spent, and you are all laughed out, not only the muscles that aided in the production of the laugh, but all the surrounding muscles relax. Leaving you feeling physically relaxed.

The results of the studies also support the theory that laughter can produce feelings of well being. These good feelings are due to a decrease in stress hormones that come with the action of laughing. For example, levels of harmful stress hormones such as, epinephrine, cortisol, dopac, and growth hormone were shown to be much lower in a group that were exposed to humor that resulted in laughter, then the group that was left without the stimulation of humor.

Laughter also appears to have a positive effect on the immune system. Along with other health benefits such as, lowering blood pressure, killing some forms of viral cells that cause various types of cancer, and in some cases even been known to reduce different forms of body pain.

So what could it hurt, get laughing and laugh yourself healthy...

Laughing --- Its so contagious

Humour And Analysis

Humour And Analysis...
"AS a writer on any subject is apt to have a partial mind, I desire to clear myself at once from all prejudice by offering to my judicial readers the assurance of my profound conviction that a sense of humour is a hindrance to practical success in life, but of course they will notice the qualified form of my statement. To have an eye for the recurring comedy of things, so that no absurdity of speech or incident escapes, is a joy to the individual, sustaining him wonderfully amid the labours and stupidities of life, and very likely it is also a joy to his friends, who have learned from him to use the wholesome medicine of laughter."
