The Charleston Dance and Sheet Music

The Charleston, a song, was introduced in the Broadway production Runnin Wild in 1923. The dance was actually introduced in Irving C Miller's Liza in 1923.

The dance became quite popular with the Flappers and was performed quite often in a speakeasy. It became such a craze that eventually there were Charleston contests.

A list of a few Charleston songs:

  • Charleston Crazy (1923)
  • Charleston Cabin (1924)
  • Charleston Charley (1924)
  • Charleston Baby of Mine (1925)
  • I'm Gonna Charleston on Back to Charleston (1925)

Of course there were many fast beat songs that the Charleston could be danced to.

The Flapper girls of the 1920's were a new generation of young women who wore short skirts, bobbed their hair, and listened to the new "jazz" music. They wore excessive make-up, drank alcohol, and drove cars.

Fun idea - this lens. I have some old sheet music I picked up with a piano. It does start to fall apart when used so I am thinking about taking 3 or 4 and mount in a picture frame to place over the piano. Thanks again, and five stars. See you at the Giant squid celebration.
