Vintage Sheet Music from the Roaring Twenties
One can find a large variety of sheet music for songs that were popular during the 1920s. The decade is referred to as The Roaring Twenties, Jazz Age, Dry Decade and the Flapper Generation.
Some chose to listen to the music on a Victrola or Graphanola, while others purchased the sheet music so that they could play it at home for their family and friends.
This article will give examples of the types of music produced in Sheet Music form during the 1920s along with a little history of the era. It will be geared toward to collector of sheet music. A person could amass quite a collection of wonderful songs and covers if they limited their collection to the decade of the 1920s.

The Roaring Twenties gave us a new lifestyle after WWI. New inventions, industrial growth, and breaks from tradition spawned new ideas for songwriters and musicians. The Flapper changed the way society looked at women. Art Deco peaked during the 1920s giving artists a new way to decorate the covers of the sheet music. This wonderful and fun era gave the world a large variety of sheet music options with many styles of music available to the public.
Dance music became very popular in the 1920s. People frequented Night Clubs to hear Jazz and other music that they could dance to. The Fox-trot, the Lindy-Hop, and the Charleston were popular dances during this era of music.

One can find many examples of sheet music designed or used to dance the Fox Trot.

- You Don't Like It - Not Much (1927)

The Charleston Dance and Sheet Music
The Charleston, a song, was introduced in the Broadway production Runnin Wild in 1923. The dance was actually introduced in Irving C Miller's Liza in 1923.The dance became quite popular with the Flappers and was performed quite often in a speakeasy. It became such a craze that eventually there were Charleston contests.

- Charleston Baby of Mine (1925)
- I'm Gonna Charleston on Back to Charleston (1925)
Of course there were many fast beat songs that the Charleston could be danced to.
The Flapper girls of the 1920's were a new generation of young women who wore short skirts, bobbed their hair, and listened to the new "jazz" music. They wore excessive make-up, drank alcohol, and drove cars.

Collecting Sheet Music from the Roaring Twenties era can be filled with every genre of music. Songs that can be danced with the Fox Trot or Charleston. Ballads and love songs along with early Jazz songs were all prevalent during this wonderfully full era that loved to dance and sing.

- Fun idea - this lens. I have some old sheet music I picked up with a piano. It does start to fall apart when used so I am thinking about taking 3 or 4 and mount in a picture frame to place over the piano. Thanks again, and five stars. See you at the Giant squid celebration.
