How To Properly Train Your Shih tzu

The Shih Tzu dog is a very friendly and active dog. They can be very lovable and a great companion to have around. It is important to get Shih Tzu training out of the way as soon as possible so that you can establish a happy, long relationship with them. Below are the most common types of training for this breed of dog and the steps to take to effectively get them trained.

Housebreaking the Shih Tzu

First, you must decide where this place is going to be. Are you going to train them to go in their crate, on newspaper or outside? Figure this out and then stick with it. Do not change places as this will only confuse your pup.

Once you decide where the place is going to be, you need to take your pup there at various times. These times are usually within 30 minutes after eating, after naps, when it is bedtime and anytime it looks like they have to go.

You also have to have an abundance of patience, especially when starting out potty training your Shih Tzu pup. Be consistent and create a routine. Also, be sure to praise your pup for a job well done.

Obedience Shih Tzu training

<
Shih Tzu Puppy TrainingIn order to successfully train your Shih Tzuto be obedient, you must gain your pup's respect immediately. They must learn to recognize you as the leader, not them. You want your pup to learn certain commands such as sit, heel, lay down and come to you as directed.

You can attempt to do this on your own and with a little persistence, you can achieve this goal, however it might be wise for you to seek the help of a professional obedience trainer. These trainers are there to not only help your pup, but also give you tips and advice on the right ways to do it.

One thing that a professional will attempt and advise you to do is get your dog socializing. This simply means, getting your Shih Tzu around other types of dogs and people as much as possible. You need to get the fear out of your pup so that they feel comfortable around them, otherwise you will find them biting and attacking.
