Care And Cleaning Tips For Beads And Gemstones
The safest cleaning technique for most jewelry is to rinse each piece in soapy warm water. Scrub each item with a very soft brush (if needed). Then rinse with warm water and pat dry with a soft, lint free cloth.
For jewelry with stones such as opal, turquoise, amber, bone, coral, horn, ivory, and pearls NEVER use ultrasonic cleaners. These cleaners will cause permanent damage to the beads. If you plan on using an ultrasonic cleaner, make sure to follow the directions!
Always check the instructions on the store bought jewelry cleaner you decide to use before cleaning any items with stones. Some stones, such as turquoise and freshwater pearls cannot be placed in most store bought jewelry cleaners.
Keep all jewelry with semi-precious stones and crystals in a jewelry bag for protection (plastic bag works well).
Avoid wearing your jewelry while bathing or swimming.
Use any lotions or perfumes before putting on your jewelry. Some solutions can discolor gems and beads.
Because pearls are very fragile, special care should be take when cleaning and storing your pearl jewelry.

Clean you gold jewelry with a soft toothbrush and some soapy water (dishwashing liquid works great). Dip the toothbrush in the water and brush lightly getting into all of the crevices. Rinse the piece in warm water. Buff your piece dry with a soft, lint free cloth.
If you perfer you may use a non-abrasive store bought jewelry cleaner. Limit the gemstone's exposure to these cleaners - they may harm certain kinds of gemstones, check to make sure the cleaner is safe to use on your piece.
