Empathy with Wild Horses
Wild Horses are a symbol of so many things. They share the same beauty - on a smaller, scruffier scale- as any other horse, but they have that something extra: freedom. Independence. They are survivors and they remind us of a time when America was founded on just that. People who survived, made mistakes, but in the end thrived to form a nation.
We all have these moments when we just want to live, let live and be free to explore and grow without the proverbial saddle and bridle put on by people who want us to conform, sometimes to be something we just aren't. I'm an artist. I'll never be a math whiz..

So naturally....this comes out in my art. So anyone who wears it or gives these gifts can celebrate their freedom and show their appreciation not only for the wild horse, but for the wild and free side of us.
Wild Horse Attitude
Horse and Human not so different after all.
Wild Horses frequent our dreams. A wild stallion rearing, untamed by man-though perhaps one girl or boy may do it. The American Mustang accorded protection in a 1971 act was considered a living symbol of the tough independence of the pioneers, cowhands and explorers who founded the west. On the other side of this invasion the Native Americans on discovering the horse welcomed the horse into their culture.

Leave Me Alone! Get off of My Back. I want to be free, I want to run, I want to hang out with the herd, Hey that's MY mare...
This is what's in my mind when I draw that wild horse. Spirit, Independence, determination. Just plain attitude.
I hope you enjoy the horses. If you have the wild horse attitude on occasion, or know someone who does, please take a look. Get yourself some Wild Horse Attitude to show off!

Wild Horse Challenges
Friends or Rivals?
A controversy is raging in America. A 1971 protection act has been fought against and subverted by the very agency,-the Bureau of Land Management- meant to uphold it. It's already in Congress. If the BLM has its way the horses will be removed, destroyed. Horse lovers are fighting.

Why is this happening? Why are the Wild Horses -the American Mustang, but also other wild breeds throughout the world are in danger?Where humans are concerned that's not always so easy to just live and let live. The horses graze on land coveted by cattle owners. They wander mountains where precious minerals are deep under hoof. They may or may not have natural predators depending on where they live. But with humans spreading everywhere, there is less and less room it seems for their independent beauty.
Horses helped found nations, and many of the wild ones-feral if you insist but they would not agree- are descendents of these. If something like a living breathing horse, which has inspired, encouraged and helped so many with it's presence is expendable, then is anything sacred?
Infuriatied by the gap between provable fact and the propaganda put out by the BLM, I was inspired and I discovered my wild horse attitudes. Some shops are in Cafepress, some in Zazzle. Let the world know: their are things in world that are priceless. And the beauty and symbolism of the wild horse is one of them. Keep them free.

Natural Beauty
A horse with a rider may be a picture of harmony. But a wild horse is the stuff of dreams. A wild horse is full of 'What if' I could catch and ride it? Will it survive the mountain lion or wolf stalkings? Will that new foal grow up to be the herd stallion or a lead mare? They are beauty in and of themselves.
The fact that they survive without a barn in harsh winter, poor grazing and predators is a testament to a creature worthy or respect and honor. Can we say the same? How many humans-in America at least-could manage winter without at least a pack of matches? Or fight off the mountain lion without a gun?
We would be so much the poorer without them to inspire the imagination.

- I think they're beautiful and should be respected and protected. They do make excellent saddle mounts, but oh my yes, at least some herds should be left to be wild!
