Why Be Shrewed?

There's an old adage that says in order to get ahead in the business world, you've got to be shrewd.
Many people take this to be a bad thing, but is it really?
In modern times, the term shrewd has come to mean somewhat of a bad thing. However, the truth of the matter is that being shrewd simply means being clever.

The term originated somewhere between the 13th and 14th centuries.
It was derived from the singular form of shrew, which at the time meant a rascal or scoundrel.
However, throughout the ages, the term came to mean someone who was both intelligent and practical.
The person who could spot the minor errors in business transactions or daily affairs was seen as being shrewd.
In more modern times, a person who is seen as being hardheaded is referred to as being shrewd.

It is because of these terms and associations that most highly successful people are considered shrewd.
The truth is that they are very shrewd.
In order to compete with the rest of the world, you've got to have all the aspects implied with the term.
A truly successful person is very hardheaded.
They have to be able to stand their ground when everyone else is ready to give up. They have to be keenly intelligent in all points of their business affairs.
And, they have to be practical in their daily ventures.

In our current economic condition, it's even more important to be on top of all your business prospects.
You've got to be shrewd in everything that pertains to your business, otherwise you could end up losing it all.
According to various sources, other terms that hold the same meaning as shrewd are "smart, crafty, savvy, wise, and wily".
Each of these are also terms that a successful business owner has to possess in order to stay ahead of the game.

For example, you have to be smart. Consider this important aspect.
When you're dealing with business ventures, finances, and other business related issues, you have to be smart.
You have to know where every dollar is spent.
You have to be able to adjust your projects to coincide with the changing times.
And, you've got to be able to deal with co-workers and management officials on a daily basis.
A shrewd person can do all of this, and more.

Being crafty doesn't necessarily mean you've got to be nasty.
This simply means that you have the ability to come up with fresh ideas at a moments notice.
It means that you can take an existing idea and turn it into something new, exciting and dynamic.
It means that you can work with whatever is handed to you, deal with everything that is dropped into your lap, and you can do it all without showing any stress.
A shrewd person can deal with the stress in ways most others would never think of doing.

One thing about being shrewd in business is being wise.
You might be the "full steam ahead" type person, but you also know when to back down.
A wise person knows where to invest their time and money, they know who to trust with different tasks.
Wisdom usually comes with experience,
and someone who's been in the business for a long time knows exactly what to do in times of crisis.
A shrewd person knows when to keep going, and when to step away.

Almost everyone has heard the term, "business savvy".
The thing is that not a lot of people know what it means.
In essence, it means that you have an astute understanding of the things going on around you.
You have detailed information about the ins and outs of the daily grind.
You know what's already come to pass, and you know what to look forward to in the future.
You know everything there is to know about your business and its inner workings. A shrewd person knows what to expect, and what to avoid.

And finally, there's the term wily. A wily person is cunning and creative.
They can take a small idea and work it into a dynamic plan.
They keep trying even when all hope seems to be against them, and they refuse to give up until they've reached their goal.
A wily person can take even the smallest things around them,
and turn them into huge achievements for their business.
A shrewd person knows how to take the mundane and create something astounding.

There is nothing wrong with being shrewd in your business endeavors.
The truly successful business people are very shrewd and very good at what they do. They are crafty in the daily affairs, they are savvy when it comes to the ins and outs of their companies, and they are smart about how they conduct themselves.
If you want to get ahead in the business world, you've got to be shrewd.

So where does one learn to be shrewed?
Wise, shrewed parents should be the main source of nurturing and passing this quality down with their children
It is an quality of life that is really not being taught in family life.
If you are a parent, ask yourself, "Am I helping my child learn to be shrewed?"
If you are then it will serve the child well in life as an adult to survive.

Remember, it isn't rude, it's shrewd.
