Shrink Wrap
Shrinkwrapping is one of the fastest-growing packaging methods of modern times.
Whether you need a quick and easy way to keep components from rattling around during transit, or a hygienic airtight seal for food and medical products, shrink wrap provides the solution.
Although I can't tell you everything you need to know on a single page, I can share a bit of information and a few good tips.
Shrink Wrap Films
Choosing suitable film is the most important decision. Some are tough and strong while others are thin and delicate. It is vitally important to choose the right film for the task required, so make sure you carefully consider what is needed and find a product that will do the job well.
Machines and Equipment
It is difficult to know where to start here, there is such a huge range available! Some big machines can connect with conveyor belts on a production line and fully automate the shrink wrapping a process. Other smaller pieces of a equipment are designed for occasional home use, and can be bought quite cheaply. At the very least, you need a tool to do the cutting and sealing, and a source of heat that will cause shrinkage.
Random Tips
- Always use a larger piece of shrink wrap film than you think you need. There is nothing worse than finding you don't have enough, then having to start again.
- Try to do everything with a single piece of film, as the results will be neater and stronger.
- Remove as much air as possible before sealing to avoid the ballooning or bubbling effect when heat is applied.
