Siberian Husky Training

Siberian Huskies are beautiful, strong and intelligent dogs. In fact. they are so intelligent that they can become independent and even willful and difficult to control without proper training. I got my first Siberian Husky from my Grandmother. She had this beautiful, black and white, long-coat puppy, with one brown eye and one "party blue," where the eye is half brown and half blue. He was the last puppy in a litter, and she couldn't keep him, so I adopted him. He was so sweet, and I was so sure he'd fit right in.

He did fit right in. In fact, he fit in so well that he took over. He was unbelievably smart, and never having had a Siberian Husky before I didn't know how important consistent and thorough training was. I thought it would be like with my other dogs. Well, needless to say I rapidly lost control of him. He wouldn't listen, ignoring me completely when I called him. He escaped from his dog run every single time he went in. I still don't know how he did it a few of those times! He would run off for hours; once he was gone for three days before sauntering back into our yard like nothing was wrong.

I couldn't take it any more. I was sick with worry half the time because I couldn't trust him to stay put, and the other half of the time I was so frustrated with him for not listening that I wanted to pull my hair out. Finally I realized that he needed some good, solid training, something much more thorough than what we had been doing.
