What Can We Do?

Our healthcare system is broken. Not many will dispute this fact.

But more importantly, how can we fix the system? Is it fixable or should we start over again?

I started this lens so that we, as a people, can begin to generate a dialog, to band together, and to decide what and how to take control of a system that no longer works for the people it is supposed to support.

Health Care Comparisons

A Snapshot of Health Care in America

According to a recent article from NPR,

"The United States spends more of its gross domestic product on heath care than any other country. The WHO came up with these estimates in 1997, showing that the U.S. spends more than twice as much of its GDP on health care compared with the United Kingdom, with Cuba and France in the middle. Most of the medical costs in the U.K, Cuba and France are paid by the government, respectively 97 percent, 87 percent, and 77 percent. In the U.S., government spending accounts for 44 percent of the nation's health care bill, with most of that going to Medicare and Medicaid."

Banding Together

Let's Listen to Success, and Stamp it With American Bravado

What are France, England, Canada and Cuba doing right? Taking care of their own first. We as Americans have great big, open hearts and give to many other countries' poor and sick. But, we have to be more selfish when it comes to taking care our citizens.

My first order of the day is to suggest we band together, just like the people in other countries who listen to the wishes of their people.

Join a local Meetup Group, or create a new one! If you've never heard of Meetup, it's a website where you can join a group of other like-minded individuals who share your passions. If there isn't a Meetup group already on your topic of choice, create one easily.

The more voices out there, the better. Our government needs to listen to us. Everyone deserves to have healthcare.

I Want Your Input

Am a healthcare veteran with considerable insider experience in hospital, physician and health plan venues. The movie only confirmed for me what I know to be true about US Healthcare. We must reform the system. To do so will require invading if not trampling on the "taboos" of meddling with the free market system defended by big pharma, and the industrial medical complex including their health plan sentries.

Everyone will have to give, including those of us on the consumer side of the equation.

We have yet to offer the group purchasing leverage to the uninsured in any meaningful way. Absent structural health care reform, at least the uninsured should have access to the same discounted rates the insurance companies have access to. For more visit: www.preferredhospitals.com.
