The 2008 Sidekick is Awesome!

T-mobile's latest version of the hiptop (also known as the Sidekick Aspen and the Sidekick Gekko) has one thing no other phone has had before; the ability to make completely customized, professional-looking faceplates that are all your own!

Wondering what to do with all this great power and potential? Let's find out...

So what can I put on my Custom Shell?

A few ideas if you're stumped for what to try...

  1. Support your favorite Political Candidate! Wondering if we can put our favorite political slogans and quotes on these things? Yes we can!
  2. Promote your Small Business! These things are made to be branded. Put a little care into how you do this, but we bet it'll look great!
  3. Feature your favorite roleplaying character! Have a near and dear World of Warcraft avatar? A whole new body in Second Life? A fursona? Whatever it is, you can put it on these shells too!
  4. Do Artwork? Feature your best pieces on a Sidekick!
  5. Feature Your Pets! Love your puppy? Wish you could take your cockatiel everywhere you go? Miss your betta? A sidekick shell is just the thing you need to show how much you love your pets!
  6. Make Sure Everyone Knows it's Yours. Put that perfect picture of yourself to use by making sure your face is on your sidekick.
  7. Who do you love, baby? Alternatively, putting your sweetheart's picture on your shell isn't a bad idea either...
  8. Keep the family nearby. Take that huge picture from the family reunion and now you can have it with you wherever you go.
  9. Been traveling lately? Use your favorite snapshots from your trips around the world (or just down the block) and you'll always have your little piece of Paris, or New York, or Moe's Tavern...

But Wait! What's #10?

Hey, do you have an even BETTER idea?

That's up to you!

Give me your best, wildest, or just plain freakiest suggestion you can come up with for putting on your Sidekick! Other people can even vote on it, so bring your friends by to vote you up!

What I Put On My Own Sidekick!

Look what I did...

Here's an example of what goes into the Sidekick website when you design a shell, compared to how it comes back to you! Aside from some color distortion on the edges and a few small dings (printer error?), it's just perfect!

(If you like the image, I have the same picture also over on DeviantArt if you'd like to fave it for later or comment on it!)

Is it worth $15 to you to have a custom shell?

Come on, everyone's got an opinion...

Totally! I love my shells!

Jenni says:

Definitely worth it. I have the ability to change the look and personality of my device whenever I like. It's like getting a new phone every couple of months.

I've paid enough for this thing...

JigsawForte says:

@Nick:

Well, the "Basic" shells are available for $10 each if you buy two or more at once... at least that's the deal at the local T-mobile stores. I would've gone that route myself if I hadn't already gone and made my special shell the way I like it.

Nick says:

I think $10 would have been a more suitable price, but thats just me. [i already ordered 2 :D ]
