Have you been blessed by a Squid Angel?

Sidther got her Squid Angel Wings on September 28th, 2011!

I have wanted to join the Squid Angel Program since I received my first blessing shortly after joining Squidoo in January of 2011. If you are unfamiliar with the program, Squid Angels are volunteers on Squidoo who give "blessings" to special lenses (articles) which gives a temporary boost in lensrank and more importantly, lets the lensmaster know that they are doing something right.

On September 28th, 2011 I received an email telling me I had been accepted into the Squid Angel Program! I am so excited because now I really get to help out more around the entire Squidoo community! I have not been here that long yet so I am certainly not the "expert" but I do love helping new lensmasters!

I started this lens to show off the excellent lenses that I bless. If your lens is not listed here yet then don't worry! I am just getting started and may not have made my way to your lenses yet! If I have blessed one of your lenses and it is not shown here, please let me know so I can fix that!

What makes a lens Bless Worthy?

There are a few factors... the lens must not be cruel or hurtful to any individual or group of persons, it must not be Spammy and it must have UNIQUE content. The overall appearance is important as well (chunks of broken code everywhere or painful color schemes). Spelling counts- but everyone has the occasioanl typo so a few of those won't necessarily be a big problem. The lens should not have many default module titles (we have all forgotten to change one or two at some point). The bio must also have something in it and NOT the default picture!

I am not a copyright expert but I do look for a few basic things- such as whether credit has been given for images that are NOT your own work, whether they have been linked correctly to the source or if they are your own photos. If there is a professional looking image with no mention of where it came from (and you are NOT a photographer or artist) I might pass on a blessing.

If you have professional quality photos because you are a photographer that is different! If it looks like you took the pictures yourself OR I already know you are a photographer (in your bio, a note at the bottom of the lens etc) then please don't think I would pass over you, I would enjoy your pictures and then, provided the rest of the lens is great, I would bless it!! I pass on those I suspect are stolen because stolen images do hurt the original owner- if YOU are the original owner then please don't worry!

I do look for lenses that help someone in some way- whether it is life saving advice or how to use html in a lens, if it actually helps someone then I am more inclined to bless it!

If you have never received a blessing from anyone there could be a few reasons- it may be a quality issue but it may also be an issue of not having been found so please don't give up! If you can't figure it out, head over to the forums for some great advice from experienced lensmasters!

Newbies.... I LOVE visiting lenses by newbies and yes, I'm a bit of a softy. I will bless a lens by a newbie even if it has a few issues as long as something about it is special and it shows effort- remember it STILL can not violate copyright (I will run it through a plagiarism checker) and of course can not be mean. If it violates the Squidoo Terms Of Service in any way, I will report it immediately.

Sometimes, Squid Angels will leave you a comment letting you know your lens has been blessed- but not always!

I prefer not to always leave the comment as I personally feel like sometimes it means more when nothing is said- sometimes, not always! Sometimes however I will leave a comment- to me it depends on a variety of factors.

Wow, it has only been 15 days !

I am loving every minute of it!

I have found some amazing lenses to bless in my first 15 days as a squid angel! Actually, I have found at least 43 lenses to bless! I say at least because I have a nagging feeling that I blessed 2 more lenses and forgot to write them down, so if one of them is yours, please let me know so I can display it here for you! I absolutely love it! There are so many wonderful lenses out there! Don't worry if I have not made it to one of yours yet! I am working my way all around Squidoo!

If I have already blessed one of your lenses, I am trying very hard to keep it fair and spread the blessings around. It is true that many times a lensmaster who has a few bless worthy lenses often has a lot more bless worthy lenses, but I want to make sure that I am spreading the blessings to as many lensmasters as I can find. I will be back to bless more of your lenses soon though!

My official neighborhood is the top 100s lists in each category, but after blessing one or two of those per day I do go looking for hidden gems!

I love all of the great lenses I get to visit!

I sometimes have to leave before I can bless ...

I am a stay at home Mom with a 7 year old boy and 2 ginormous dogs. Sometimes I start to check out a lens and something happens (thud, smash, barking, the school bus arrives early.....) so the majority of the time I am Squidooing amongst chaos!

I was so sad earlier because I visited a lens that I absolutely loved and intended to bless- the doorbell rang, the dogs went crazy, my kid was screaming at the dogs and I ran from the computer to grab the dog to make sure he didn't break the window or knock my son over.

Eventually, things quieted down, I came back to the computer and poof, the window that I had been reading the lens in was closed. This happens all day long, I go back through my history but sometimes that does not help at all.

I think I know which lens master I had visited so hopefully I shall find the lens again later!

    What a wonderful lens - I love when SquidAngel sprinkle some angel dust, and I love flying around Squidoo returning the favor to all the worthy lenses I find out there!

    Great idea! I was going to do something like this but now it would be a daunting exercise as I have been flying around the Squidoo world for quit some time and, although I have kept a list of lenses that I have blessed, there are soooo many. I really enjoyed visiting with you today. Keep up the angelic work.

    I didn't realize you had blessed my "Pumpkin Beer Recipe" lens when I stopped by here to bless this one. Thank you so very much. It was a most pleasant surprise. *Squid Angel Blessed* and I've added this lens to the Squid Angel Module on My Squid Angel Wings lens.

    Feedback and recognition of quality are what makes Squidoo special. If I visit a lense I like, I try to comment on it. If I do not like a lensr, I'll just move on.

    I just got my wings and wanted to try them out.So this is a practice Blessing, but a REAL Blessing also. I guess even Angels can make mistakes on their first try. Here Goes...

    hi one of my lenses was blessed- so proud of myself but don't know how to share about it with people. advice? I've seen ppl put a pic of angel on their lens, will it be just a normal txt module? huge thank

    Congratulations on having a lens blessed! There are lots of ways to share it with people, you can put a note on the lens saying that it had been blessed, you can use a featured lens masters module to show the angels if you like, some people post their lens with their first ever angel blessing in "Spotlight" in the forums (only that category). If you explore Squidoo even more look at how other lens masters do it. Also you can mention it on Facebook or Twitter with a link to your lens.

    Congratulations on getting your SquidAngel wings. I was an 'Angel' a year ago during the one-month-at-a-time program, and had a bucket of 'angel dust' to sprinkle during September 2010 and again in November 2010. I enjoyed my experience very much, particularly because I found so many beautifully presented and written stories and 'met' so many wonderful lensmasters! Many of the lenses here on your list I'm already familiar with. :). Enjoy your 'wings'. Being a SquidAngel is a very rewarding undertaking. My main reason for being happy to be a Squid Angel is it gave me an opportunity to 'give back' to Squidoo for all it has given me.

    some of us take professional quality photos and post them. do we need to notify the public that we took the photos? I have serious topic lenses and some of my posting my own credits may seem like boasting when I am trying to communicate a serious message. what do you think?

    I think that if your photos look like they are from a magazine or something then perhaps just a little note somewhere on the lens stating "all photos on this page are my own work unless otherwise stated" - I use my own photos but it is quite obvious that they are snapshots taken by a mom during chaos!

    I have seen a few lenses with professional photos (taken by the lensmaster) where is is just a small caption under the photo, a small gray box at the bottom of the page, or even if you use the label in the big picture modules. This way if others see your photos and want to use them they also know where you got them (so they know to ask you) and that you are the copyright holder.

    I don't think it would necessarily be boasting if you do it in a toned down manner that is informational only. I (and other angels) do search through the lens to see if there is anything like that on there and it does not need to be in the body of the lens. Even a small note in your bio stating that all photos are your own unless otherwise noted!

    I hate that I do sometimes have to pass on a blessing for no credit on pro looking photos, but honestly there are too many stolen photos online and I do not want to reward stolen images by giving a lensrank boost! There are ways to check them out, but I rarely go beyond clicking the image to check the url (there are some clues there) and if it happens to be linked to your own photography collection or something that helps. Any lensmaster who I know has taken the pictures themselves -I would NOT pass on the blessing!

    Very happy to see my dear friend on being beautiful squid angel. Congratulations.. dear lady :) You're very well deserved. I don't how to thank you enough for your wonderful friendship all the time, especially, blessing my scary masks lens.. I confess I still scare on that work of mine so far. All your blessing lenses (except mine) are really wonderful and worthy. You did your angel work very well. So proud and always love you.. my dearest friend..
