Great lens! Teaching my epileptic son sign language at an early age was one of the best ideas I ever thought of doing. I have added you to my list of favorite featured lenses for parents of children with special needs. I am trying to create a virtual support circle for these parents with tons of much needed information.
Thank you so much for sharing. Here is a link to that lens:

Teaching my son sign language at an early age was one of the best things I ever decided to do. He is 3, has epilepsy and started off with a speech delay and he can sign all kinds of things. His vocab has increased dramatically, with my help, but he still signs many things as well. What a great lens. I have a lens about my son and how epilepsy affected him. Thank you for sharing

There is also a version for babies called Baby Signing Time! It's geared toward a little younger kids, starting from 6 months and older. You can check out our lenses or even visit our site.

I think it's a great idea to teach kids sign language. Even if it's a temporary thing to bridge the gap between baby babble and clear speech, it means that kids grow up being more aware of and knowing how to communicate with deaf people. Also it can help develop speech if a child is struggling and can help diagnose problems early on.

My grandchildren are fulent in Spanish because it was spoken to them, with English, from the beginning, day one. That would also work with sign language, so this is great

Absolutely amazing. I wish I had known this when my kids were little. Maybe some of the tantrums would have been reduced. Really great job and I love the video of your little boy.

This is so well written! And your son is amazing! I saw a child of no more than a year old using sign language in a restaurant recently. I was mesmerized by it.
  • JaguarJulie Aug 31, 2009 @ 4:16 pm | delete

Fascinating lens. I recently watched a story in the news how kids are able to express themselves even before they can talk if they use sign language. 5*

Nicely done & blessed by a Squid Angel. My children learned sign language in Kindergarten and Grade 2. There was a child in the school who was deaf. I think it was a great opportunity for them.

Thanks so much for visiting my lens about baby sign language and lensrolling it to yours. I am going to lensroll you back! I love your videos here. People need to see how easy it is to do and how beneficial it really is. I recommend signing with babies and young children to anyone!!! Nice job here. 5 *'s for sure.

Sign language is really important and if more young children learned it, the Universal Language would become a household form of communication!!

    Thank you--wonderful!!

It has long been proven that teaching toddlers to sign gives them a "boost" in learning. Plus it's a unique and fun way to practice spelling words and vocabulary when they get to that stage in school. I'm lensrolling this to my HIchildren lens :o) Nice job!
  • Top-Kids-Toys May 4, 2009 @ 11:18 am | delete
This is absolutely fascinating! Being a mom I often sensed that babies might have the ability to talk if they had the "tools" - this gives it to them. Wonderful. =) I've favorited this lens - I also left you an answer to your comment on my "Toys for 5 to 7 year olds" lens.

    Very nice job on this!!!!!

They offered sign language as a language taught in school when I was in High School. I think it's probably more useful than many of the foreign languages!

I like that idea, too Ramkitten -- teach badly behaved kids in restaurants sign language. Yell with your hands. Brilliant! (I know that kid was probably behaving just fine, but for some reason screaming kids came to mind first).

Well done, a great idea for a lens, Squid Angel blessed!

    Wonderfully explained lens.
I learned a lot from this and wish I had know
about sign language for kids when my sons were small.

Great 5* lens...I could have used this several years ago...I was not one of those mothers that picked up on the "sounds of the crys"...I didn't know if they wanted food or a diaper or a nap...I couldn't wait for them to be able to talk...even the 2nd time around! LOL

Thanks for visiting my top infant toy lens...we had the books and some of the toys. :o)
  • JaguarJulie Apr 25, 2009 @ 8:03 am | delete
What a wonderful idea -- I wish that I had learned sign language when I was a child. We all could use more of these communication tools. Great job on your lens.

I found this page off your link in Facebook and I have to say I am impressed. I expected this to be another page full of BS and adsense but to my surprise you have great information. Thank you.

Excellent lens. You've been blessed by an Angel.
  • Ramkitten Apr 24, 2009 @ 3:36 pm | delete
This is great! I've heard about babies using sign language and, in fact, saw it once in a restaurant. The tiny little girl in a high chair, happily talking with her fingers. It was really neat! And I sure wish I'd learn to sign when I was child. It seems that any type of language is easier to pick up when you're very young. Anyhow, thanks for stopping by my lens, which led me back here. :)

Wonderful lens! My 4 year-old grandson is autistic. He has a really tough time communicating, so sign language is a needful addition to his therapy.
