Knowing The Signs of Pregnancy In The First Month.....
So you want to know if you might be pregnant. In the first month, it's hard to tell. Doctors calculate your pregnancy from the last day of your last menstrual cycle because it's difficult to know exactly when conception occurred. In fact, for most women, the first sign that they might be pregnant is a missed period.

Baby's Development for the First Four Weeks
If you could watch the fetus's development for the first few weeks, it might be a little difficult to believe that it will become a recognizable human being. It grows from being a fertilized egg to being about the size of a grain of rice and begins to develop arms, legs and facial features. It even has a tail that will be absorbed as it continues to grow. This video explains what will happen during the first few weeks of your pregnancy.

Weeks One and Two:
A pregnancy officially begins at the end of your last cycle. New eggs, called ova, drop down into follicles to mature. Two weeks after the end of your last period, one of them will be ready. The follicle will rupture and eject the ova into the fallopian tube. Your odds of getting pregnant at this time is about 20%, so if you don't get pregnant on your first time, don't worry.
Week Three:
Once the egg is fertilized, it will quickly grow into a cluster of cells about the size of the head of a pin. The outer layer of cells will become the placenta. You won't notice any changes in your body right away.
Week Four:
You may notice spots as the fetus implants in your uterus. You will also miss your period for the first time, which will be a good time to visit your doctor to confirm that you are pregnant. The fetus is still growing rapidly, fed by nutrients in the uterine lining. It begins to develop specialized cells that will develop into skin, muscles, organs, the skeleton and the nervous system.

What To Expect When You're Expecting
What to Expect When You're Expecting, 4th Edition
Amazon Price: $7.95 (as of 06/04/2012)![]()
Murkoff is back with yet another edition of the indispensable What to Expect When You're Expecting-this time with a largely rewritten and revised edition of the comprehensive guide she introduced 24 years ago. The book has undergone an extensive overhaul, beginning with the cover, which depicts a stylish expectant mom dressed in jeans and a form-fitting shirt-a far cry from the original text's comfy, frumpy mom seated in a rocking chair. Inside, the author has added a number of new features, including a chapter that draws upon current research to steer parents-to-be to a healthier lifestyle even before conception begins, chapters on healthy eating and giving birth to multiples (a growing trend) and expanded sections on working during pregnancy. While the general layout and appearance of the book will be familiar to readers, Murkoff has successfully broadened and sharpened the material while keeping the overall style and presentation intact.

How You Can Have A Healthy Pregnancy
Drink plenty of water. Within a few weeks of conception, the amniotic sac is going to fill up with fluid to cushion the embryo. By drinking eight tall glasses of water a day, you provide necessary fluids for both the sac and the embryo.
Eat a healthy diet. Be sure to eat a well-balanced diet so the embryo gets plenty of calcium, folic acid and other nutrients necessary for growth.
Quit smoking and limit alcohol intake. Tobacco and alcohol can inhibit the embryo's development and cause birth defects.
Talk to your doctor before starting any medications. That also applies if you are on any medications while attempting to get pregnant. Many drugs can have unwanted side effects for your unborn baby.
Make regular visits to your obstetrician-gynecologist. Before getting pregnant, your ob-gyn can give you advice about genetics and environmental factors that can affect your pregnancy. They can also monitor the fetus's development.

For instance, you might start hating your favorite food or vice versa. In this case, then you are in your first two weeks of pregnancy. But, to be able to confirm these allegations, you must do a pregnancy test right away.
