What Size Silent Cellar Do You Need?
A Quick Estimation
If you are going to invest in a a wine refrigerator, it is important to purchase one that will meet your needs for years to come. One important factor is the bottle capacity of the cellar. Many wine collectors underestimate their true needs.
As a rule of thumb, you can estimate your storage requirements using the following formula. Multiply the number of bottles you drink in a week by 52. Then multiply this by X, with X being the average aging of the wines you plan to store. For example, if you drink 3 bottles per week and plan to store wine for an average of 2 years, your required bottle capacity would be 312. Modify this estimate with your own personal factors.
Your Silent Cellar should hold sufficient wines to ensure that you can serve an appropriate wine for whatever occasion arises.
