ASPS has an official position against breast augmentation for patients under 18, but many cosmetic surgeons continue to perform the procedure as an "off-label" use.

* With your bra on, stand in front of the mirror, and you should not see any bulging out of the bra anywhere. No more armpit boobs!
* The band is the one that supports the bra. The elastic should not roll up or dig into the ribcage.

The FDA has approved both the McGhan silicone gel breast implant and the Mentor silicone gel breast implants for primary breast augmentation in the US. Primary means they cannot have had breast implants at any time before. This must be their first time.

The silicone gel breast implants became available in November of 2006 making it an option for women over the age of 22. Silicone gel has many advantages over silicone including that they look and feel much more natural than saline.

Another draw back is that because they hold their shape better, they also require a larger incision either under the armpit or under the breast, either way it's more noticeable.

It seems gummy bear implants just might be the implant of the future. The key to these implants looking great will be a skilled practitioner because they must be perfectly placed - that's the difference between other's and the gummy bear.

Since the invention of fashion magazines, ads for creams, herbs and exercise gadgets that naturally enlarge breasts have been littering their back pages. Now, with the internet, these "breast enhancement" products have a new venue on which to sell their "Miracle Products." The FDA and Better Business Bureau both warn against trusting these products, pointing out the lack of scientific evidence proving any of them work at all.

But fairly recenlty, a new product has found its way onto the market and into the pages of fashion magazines-- the Brava Bra. Brava is a non-surgical breast enlargement device that uses vacuum suction to produced tension-induced tissue growth in the breasts. Developed and tested by plastic surgeon Dr. Roger Khouri, the device is reported to permanently increase a woman's breast one cup size after ten to twelve weeks.

The device is made up of two plastic domes held in place beneath a specially made bra. The battery-powered suction creates tension-induced tissue growth for permanent results.

Though Brava has shown results in over 100 women tested, he problem with the device seems to be the dedication it takes to stick with the treatment. Brava is cumbersome, and it must be worn ten hours per day for ten weeks religiously. Each day skipped sets the treatment back one week or more.

Carolyne Weaver tried the device herself and reported her results in Elle Magazine. She says of wearing the device:

"there's no way you can conceal these jutting plastic cones, even under the largest sweatshirt. When I have the rig on, I can't even walk around my kitchen without knocking into cabinets."

She does report results however, from an A cup to a small B cup, a modest result she's happy with, though it may not be enough improvement for many.

According to Dr. Khouri, his studies have shown permanent growth of approximately 100 cc's after a 10 to 12 week treatment. It should be pointed out that a typical breast implant size is 250 cc's.

For tenatious women who can stick with it, the treatment doesn't have to end at 12 weeks, and the longer the treatment, the greater the results.

So, for women with determination, who are only seeking a small increase in breast size, Brava may be an option to seek out. But according to the Elle magazine article, the device still has some bugs to iron out, and often breaks down during treatment, tacking extra time onto an already arduous treatment.

According to Elle Magazine, the device sold direct to the consumer costs anywhere from $895 to $1195, and possibly more if purchased through a doctor's office, which is certainly less expensive than breast implants. And for women uncomfortable with surgical breast augmentation, it may be an option to check into.

North Dallas plastic surgeons Drs. Harlan and Todd Pollock point out some of the devices "pittfalls" on their website. These include the small amount of increase compared to breast implants, the price of the device, it's cumbersome nature, and its inability to improve breast shape like surgical procedures can.
