Silk Ribbon is available in a wide variety of colours and widths, and is surprisingly easy to work. With just a little care you can create lovely three dimensional effects - especially useful for flower embroidery. There are some wonderful books and videos that will introduce you to this technique and you can quickly master the basics.
Links to Silk Ribbon Suppliers in the UK
- Rainbow Silks
- Online ordering for all kinds of textile supplies, including undyed silk ribbon and the dyes to play with.
- Debbie Cripps
- Debbie stocks YLI silk ribbon, as well as lots of other craft products. She also has some preety and inexpensive starter kits if you want to try out the technique without spending a lot of money.
- The London Bead Company
- A great company that stocks a lot of the necessary supplies for fine embroidery, as well as beading. A good place to buy Australian Wool Blanketing in the UK. They stock a wide range of gorgeous Japanese Silk Ribbon colours- you can see the shades via the website but there are a few pages to navigate and you have to download the relevant pdf. I wouldn't normally include them as they do not yet make it easy to shop online- but they are always helpful on the telephone and they do stock some things I haven't found elsewhere in the UK
Panel with Silk Ribbon Roses and Lace

This was the second silk ribbon project I did- which just demonstrates how easy the technique is. The pattern was taken from an Australian magazine- I will put up the reference as soon as I can find it! Please email me if you want to know and I'll get back to you.
