Sometimes it is necessary to iron a silk tie. For example, there are times when you need to remove wrinkles on it. Here are some tips that may help you:

#1: Before you iron a silk tie, remember to cover a clean cotton cloth on the tie for protection.

#2: The iron should be kept at a lower temperature. In general, if the tie is made of silk or polyester, the temperature of the iron should not be higher than 140°C.

#3: Avoid ironing a silk tie if possible, since ironing may hurt the fabric (especially when the temperature of the iron is high) and may make the tie look too flat.

In general, you should try your best to prevent wrinkles instead of removing them by ironing. Here are some tips and tricks that can help you prevent wrinkles to appear on a tie:

1. Do not tie the knot too tight.

2. Remember to untie your silk tie after used. If not, permanent wrinkles will be created. (Unfortunately many people do not follow this rule. They never untie a tie. They just pull down the knot from the collar to a position to take their head out. On the next day, they put the tie back on their neck and move the knot up to the collar.)

3. If you are on travel, roll up your ties and do not let other things in the suitcase to squeeze them too much. Consider buying a tie case.

Silk ties aren't really meant to be cleaned, even by a dry cleaner. But if you need to clean your tie, here are some helpful hints.

1. Resist the temptation to expose a silk tie to water.

2. Use a white paper towel to dab a small amount of stain remover onto the stain. Act as fast as possible.

3. Blot with the paper towel.

4. Have the tie professionally dry-cleaned if you haven't gotten rid of the stain. However, keep in mind that a stain remover may discolor a silk tie slightly. Even dry-cleaning may harm your tie.
