How to keep water quality?

Basic thing you should know in caring for Silver Arowana is the quality of water in the aquarium

Care for Silver Arowana is basically same as other fish care. The most important thing is to maintain the quality of water in the aquarium. Proverbially, they live in their own toilet which means that how dirty their home if not cleaned regularly and filtration systems are inadequate.

How to keep water quality? Replace the water as much as 20-25% routinely once in a week by following these steps:
  1. Before you replace water, clean aquarium wall by using clean sponge/cotton. Usually, algae are often stuck to that wall.
  2. Turn off the heater first. It is to avoid the heater bursts, explodes or leaks due to heat released while not exposed to the water.
  3. After that, the next step is to suck dirt and remove water as much as 20-25% of total aquarium water volume.
  4. Before put fresh water, you should clean filter box, hose and other media first. It means to re-entry dirt that settles on the bottom of filter box and hose. Replace sponge/cotton with another new.
  5. Put fresh water that has been settled as fast as one day and in aeration (given bubbles).
  6. Provide drugs and fluids needed to neutralize the water, followed with salt to fish as needed (usually only a tablespoon).
  7. Close the lid of the tank tightly because Silver Arowana often jumps up and down due to temperature changes or new water parameters.
  8. Turn on the filter/power head and heater.
