Silvertron's Famous White Chocolate Bread Pudding
This lens opens with a photo of my dessert because it was through this dessert that I was first introduced to The Silvertron Cafe and it's owners, the Morosinis, at the tasting event on the eve of Birmingham Restaurant Week, held August 18, 2011, at the historic Alabama Theatre, in downtown Birmingham. I sampled the food of many of the restaurants that were represented that night, but this is the tasting that was unforgettable. I had never really cared for bread pudding, but it was free (after the entry fee to the event) so, I thought, "Why not try it? If you don't like it, you can trash it." I didn't like it. I LOVED it, and went back for more.
Chef Marco Morosini and his bride, the owners of The Silvertron Cafe
My husband and I dined recently at Silvertron. Our food was cooked to perfection. The service was outstanding. This has become a new favorite. I can see us becoming regulars. You can see their fabulous menu at The Silvertron Cafe.
Shrimp & Crab Eggs Benedict
with fresh fruit and creamy cheese grits
This is my meal from our Sunday brunch this week -- well, most of it, anyway. As you can probably see, I had already begun eating when I remembered to snap this photo. I tried to make the plate look pretty again, and cropped out as much of the messy part as possible. My husband and I go to Sunday brunch every Sunday after church. Okay, now and then we don't make it to church. After going to the same restaurant almost every Sunday for about a year, we decided to branch out and sample other fare. This week we went to The Silvertron Cafe in the Forest Park community of Birmingham. The main reason we went there was that we were impressed with their food at the recent tasting event. But we had already been thinking of trying The Silvertron because it was highlighted on the US Airways Dividend Dining Miles' list of member restaurants.
This is a great way to have a great meal and get airline miles, too; and you actually do get the points, unlike some of those credit cards. You know the ones I mean, the ones where the bank insists they sent the miles/points to the airline, but the airline swears they never got them....
But back to Silvertron: We loved it and will definitely go there again. And yes, we ordered the white chocolate bread pudding.
A Cozy Little Bar Inside The Silvertron Cafe
This looks like a cozy little bar for having an intimate drink with your special someone after a play or a movie, a trip to the art museum, or maybe just a a rainy afternoon. Take this poll about dining out.
A Wall of Metal Art in The Silvertron Cafe
This metal art is by local artist, Eric Johnson, and represents various places in the city.
I found the art of Eric Johnson very interesting, detailed, and of high quality. My problem? A house with one of those open floor plans and, therefore, less walls on which to hang art - mine or anyone else's. (I work in watercolors and acrylics.) I liked Eric's metal art so much that I decided to include it in this lens. The art on display at Silvertron rotates frequently.
You can see his work and that of many other Birmingham artists at Naked Art USA.
A Bit of History
The building that now houses The Silvertron Cafe was once a TV store: a Silver-Tron TV store. Hence the name of the cafe. The Forest Park neighborhood is quirky, cool, pretty, and fun. There are lots of little restaurants and cafes, galleries and shops. This great little restaurant is near the intersection that borders the golf course of Highlands Country Club. Birmingham has many historic neighborhoods. Visit some when you can.
A Tribute to the Previous Tennant of this Building
On a red wall that faces the front of the restaurant is a huge black and white
photo of the Silver-Tron TV store. Remember picture tubes, and having the
TV repairman come to your home?

- Looks like a very cool place! Will have to put it on my "to do" list on my next trip back to Birmingham. Do you know if the Silvertron has a dairy free menu?
