Recycling, Re-purposing and Reducing Saves Money

Simplifying your life can save you money. You won't need to get rid of every possession you own and live off the land, but with little changes you can make a big difference in your budget and maybe even save the environment while you are at it. Things like narrowing down your appliances, tools and furniture to those that you absolutely can't live without. You can learn to re-purpose things for different uses. For example, save containers such as oatmeal boxes and shoe boxes for future craft projects or for storing items like cards.

Simplify Your Life with Simple Changes.

Start making your own meals. I'm not suggesting you completely do away with dinner out once in awhile or a few convenience foods occasionally. But these meals do add up quickly. Learn to make foods your family loves. You not only save money by creating your own meals, you are creating good healthy eating habits for your family as well. Do you think you don't have the time to plan meals and cook them? Try a resources that already has meals planned such as the Menu In A Box 100 Day Meal Planning Kit !

Simplify your life by going through your closet and getting rid of items you no longer wear. Weed out items that are the wrong size, don't fit right or just plain are out of style. Give them to charity if they are still in good shape. Re-purpose those items that are too worn or need major repair. For example, that old flannel shirt you loved with both sleeves so worn through you can see your elbows can be cut into rags to use for dusting, washing your car or simply as grease rags in the garage. Remove all the buttons and save them for future repair projects. Shoes and handbags can be cleaned and donated as well.

One way to simplify is to declutter your home. Getting rid of magazines, paper and too many doo-dads not only frees up space in your home it relieves stress as well. Give away or sell those no longer wanted collections. Have a garage sale or sell on ebay. Gather up any books and dvds you no longer want and donate to your local library.

Simple steps to simplify can lead to positive changes in your wallet.

Important!

Reduce, Reuse and Recycle to Save Time and Money

Before you throw something in the garbage, ask yourself if the item can be used for some other purpose. Only purchase what you need to avoid wasting money and creating clutter. Reuse & Recycle is a great resource for ways to reuse things.

Consolidate and Combine Activities To Save Time and Money

You may have limited time, causing you stress which can lead to overspending or purchasing things you wouldn't normally buy. How can you maximize your time? By consolidating or combining tasks whenever possible. Here are some examples:
  • Cook in large batches and freeze the extra for another meal. This will save time and your sanity at the end of a busy work day. You can just pull something out of the freezer, reheat and your ready for dinner.
  • Consolidate errands whenever possible. Stop off at the post office, pick up Auntie's birthday card at the local pharmacy while you get your prescriptions filled and stop at the dry cleaners on your way home from work. This can save you not only driving time but gas as well.
  • Shop online through Internet to save time shopping and going from store to store only to end up standing in line for a long time. This not only saves time since you can do this during your leisure time, but also saves gas and money since bargains can easily be found online.
