I've been a dedicated Simpsons fan for about ten years. I have the first seven seasons on DVD, and I've seen every episode that aired during the first 12 or 13 seasons or so. If you've kept up with the show at all, then you'll probably agree with my opinion that the new episodes just suck compared to the old ones.
The Simpsons had a golden age that began at season 3 and lasted through season 9. All of the episodes on my list aired during those seasons. Season 10 really marked the beginning of the downfall that has lasted through the current 17th season, meaning that the past eight years of the Simpsons has only deluded the concentration of great episodes that aired long ago.
Even before watching these episodes again as I bought the DVDs (the first day they came out like a true Simpsons fan), I already knew every joke of every episode frontwards and backwards. These are the episodes that were in syndication during my elementary and middle school years, and haven't really been seen for a while. Yet, as I watched them again years later, I still knew every episode by heart. These episodes just don't get old. They are classics in every sense of the word. And the beauty of the Simpsons is that they don't resort to crude humor (as they've done in recent years), but rather showcase how clever writers can be.
