Steampunk for Home Decorating

A Steampunk style home is vintage machine elements repurposed for today. Real steampunk art pieces are eclectic assemblages made by enthusiasts or an artist. The steampunk home is up to you; there just isn't a steampunk furniture store. It is strictly DIY home decor.

Steampunk is a mainstream idea now and well suited for the man's home. Add gold, silver and crystal elements and it is a well suited museum look for the lady's sensibilities or anyone's innate curiosity.

Steampunk home decor could use colors incorporating the always favored black with autumn hues. Autumn colors are popular without the senses even knowing it; natural earthy tones brought into your living space. Ready to go mod vic or the more bold steampunk style?

Steampunk Genre

Steampunk was started around mid 1980's as a genre emulating novels by K.W Jeter, Tim Powers and others. The novels are a mix of fantasy, mechanics and history, especially during the time period of the late 19th century.

The example at right is extreme steampunk. Author G.D Falksen has a bionic arm.

Applying steampunk to your home is all about fun, same as, Halloween is about fun for dressing. As new generations are growing older the fun factor is much more prevalent. Serious fun.

Steampunk as Home Decor

Take brass, gears and mechanics and bring the fiction and fantasy of the steam punk genre into the home. One can use faux home decor items that would fit the bill, as well. Not all have to be purists to still have fun. Faux, fake, simulated, and real steampunk is a fun look. Do your own decorating.

Many steampunk Blasters and Vaporizers have display stands. The better to show it off on the mantel or in the cabinet of curiosities. Use it for the convention or Halloween party.

Look for blasters on eBay under steampunk decor. There are many choices and who knows, there could be a good deal.

I redid the master bedroom about six years ago and I had to have the Thomasville Bogart Collection. I was even buying it on Ebay after it was discontinued. It has the Twenties art deco flair. The big silver toned mirror is gorgeous.

My focus is the more affordable but I want to redo the living room with the new "Reinventions" by Thomasville
