Singer Agnetha Fältskog, solo

Ranked #4,127 in Music, #114,157 overall | Donates to Squidoo Charity Fund, Save the Children

Welcome!

Were you like this listener was, "back in the day"? If an ABBA song somehow found its way onto rock-oriented, U.S. (FM) radio... did you 'run the other way'??

If so, perhaps some of us were a bit harsh in our judgment....

Enduring pop 'super-group' ABBA (http://www.abbasite.com, new window opens) is a magnificent subject... for other great lenses. But those of us who disregarded ABBA may also have missed what followed (and preceded them): Solo Agnetha.

This lens links to a few song samples from the blonde singer and features brief, introductory commentary. It is music-focused. A visit to YouTube will confirm: The former fronting vocalist for ABBA hasn't recorded in awhile but still captivates fans throughout the world.

She enjoys being a proud grandmother nowadays but Agnetha Fältskog gave us all a shiny gift to remember: Her crystal-clear, sweet voice. "...still an impressive pop instrument", wrote a reviewer (2004 snippet,Mark Edwards) from The Times (U.K.). (Re Agnetha's 2004 comeback album, My Colouring Book. Ref.: Wikipedia article, 'Agnetha Fältskog'(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agnetha_F%C3%A4ltskog).)
An extraordinary pop voice: Rangy and packed with emotion at times. The same one that's helped sell nearly 400 million records for ABBA.

Let the music speak: Some useful links to much more (public) information about the singer can be found further below. For starters, please enjoy a few sample videos of Ms. Fältskog's in-English solo efforts, currently available on YouTube. The videogenic singer is worth a/another listen (no matter what your music 'genre' may be).

In the Guestbook please let me know what you know about the winsome pop icon. (Perhaps enjoying something of a renaissance via YouTube and other modern mediums.) And what your favorites may be....

Update: A nice, fairly recent photo of Agnetha (at a party) is displayed via this forum link (new window opens): (http://www.iphpbb.com/board/ftopic-30652567nx61610-11183.html).

Agnetha's name

Agnetha says her name in this short video clip, along with the other ABBA members (from 1976). (Including beautiful, dark-haired singing partner, Frida.)

Agnetha's vocal range (succinctly)

Featuring one YouTube video producer's analysis (below) using scientific pitch notation. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_pitch_notation) Through my own (separate) analysis elsewhere, the bright-voiced singer could cover all notes in "classic" soprano range. (I.e., C4 through C6, or 'middle C' (piano keyboard) through 'high C'.) Plus MORE:
As noted below, Agnetha's strong "lower voice" (lower range) surprises.
(And please follow the link in the 'More Music' section (further below) for a couple of complete song examples....) Thanks to 'abbaMANQUEZ' for the illuminating video analysis:

Essential Agnetha: ABBA's 'The Winner Takes It All'

Although not a solo album song from Agnetha, the pop soprano considers this bitterly sad one from ABBA to be the band's best. Her stellar lead is no small factor in that...(Ref.: Ms.Faltskog's 1996 biography, with Brita Ahman, As I Am, page 133. Special thanks to YouTube's '2Shaymcn' for posting this 1980 performance.)

Prediction

I'll start with (what I think is) an easy one...

oldngood predicts:

It is likely already underway: Talented, likable Agnetha gains (further) recognition and (retro-) appreciation (along with all of ABBA), and the reluctant star begins to (cautiously) enjoy the revival/recognition, too...

nettafan predicts:

She'll always be beautiful...

Amazon Spotlight Personal Review

My Very Best compilation by Agnetha Fältskog (2008)

My Very Best

Amazon Price: $22.95 (as of 06/04/2012)Buy Now

Clear, crisp, sweet, bright, emotion-packed: Some adjectives to describe ex-ABBA singer Agnetha Fältskog's special voice.

35 songs - from her Swedish version of ABBA's hit S.O.S. to Agnetha's singing tour de force, The Winner Takes It All - grace the My Very Best compilation. 18 songs are her Swedish solo standouts - good-sounding whether you know the language or not. Seventeen more are in English, including hits Can't Shake Loose, The Heat Is On, and I Won't Let You Go. (BTW: A few strong, English solo songs are not included here, (e.g., Man, One Way Love, The Angels Cry), as the singer chose to include a couple of her recorded duets.)

Agnetha's distinct and feminine voice makes this a worthwhile collection of - or introduction to - her solo efforts.
(A gorgeous CD cover photo of the beautiful singer as well - with several more inside. Plus a nice note written to fans by the artist.)
