The Singing Bee
The Singing Bee is a popular karaoke game show where contestants attempt to fill in the words to popular songs. The game is set up like this:
First, host Joey Fatone selects six contestants. These six contestants are given a year, singer, and song and must fill in a short lyric. If they are correct, they become one of the four finalists. If they are wrong, they have to wait until all of the other contestants have had a try before getting a second chance. The four finalists play one of two games. In the first, the contestant is given a bunch of words and must assemble the correct lyric. The second gives the contestant most of the lyrics but has 15 blanks inserted. The contestant must try to fill in as many of the blanks as they can. Regardless of the game, only two contestants move on to the championship round. This time, they must sing an entire chorus to a song without making any mistakes. If only one contestant is correct, they move on to the final countdown. If both get it right, play continues until one of the contestants is incorrect.
The winner gets to play "The Final Countdown" where they must fill in very short lyrics to up to seven songs. Every correct lyric gives the contestant an extra $5,000. If the player gets five right, they win $50,000. The player can miss two songs but if they miss a third, they are eliminated and walk away with whatever they won so far.
"The Singing Bee" airs Tuesdays at 9:30/8:30c on NBC.
