They Act, They Dance, They....Sing?

Many of the folks listed are probably best known to us as actors and actresses. Some, decided for one reason or another, to add singing to their resume. Some of them were pretty good at it and even have hit records and awards for their efforts. Some however, should have just stuck with acting; which of those who fit this category is left up to you. I have my favorites and I bet you will, too.

This lens is NOT an effort to trivialize or to make fun of any actors or actresses venture into the musical scene. It is merely designed as a way to record the efforts of those who ventured into the musical arena.

Crystal Bernard: Have We Forgotten What Love Is

Helen Chapel on TV Series Wings

It might be her role as Helen Chapel on the series "Wings" that you best remember her for, but, for years before becoming a TV star, Crystal spent a good portion of her childhood singing. As a matter of fact, she started singing at an early age as she traveled with her father, minister Jerry Wayne Bernard as he traveled across the country singing and preaching his message. She, along with her sister, Robyn sang gospel songs on the tour. Robyn also had an acting career, playing on the soap opera, "General Hospital" from 1984-90. Crystal has two albums to her credit, "The Girl Next Door" from 1996 and "Don't Touch Me There" from 1999.

Lynda Carter: All Night Song

1978 Album Portrait

To be fair to Lynda, she had been singing in bands and solo, long before she gained stardom as TV's Wonder Woman; so it wasn't the fact she was starring in a popular TV show that inspired her to take up singing. In 1978, she recorded an album entitled "Portrait". It featured a beautiful painting of her on the front cover, and a photo back cover of a pose that was issued as a poster. It contained 10 songs, a few of which she co wrote. "All Night Song" is one of my favorites from this album.

Clint Eastwood: Bouquet of Roses

Clint's acting career began in the 1950's when he did some B movie appearances, but it really took off when he worked on the series "Rawhide". He acted in many westerns and even branched out into movie musicals with a role in "Paint Your Wagon" along with Lee Marvin. In 1962 he recorded a full length album entitled "Rawhide's Clint Eastwood Sings Cowboy Favorites".

Clint Eastwood Sings Country Favorites

Rawhide's Clint Eastwood Sings Cowboy Favorites

This is mislabeled in the packaging and on the CD itself. It's a remake of Cowboy Favorites not Country Favorites. But I'm glad they're making it on CD. Clint's songs are classic and enjoyable to hear. This was previously only available on LP and people have paid big money for it. They should have kept the original LP photos of Clint from the Rawhide days when he sang it instead of what they chose which are photos of him years later but the CD is what's important

Barbara Eden:I'm A Fool To Care

1960's Favorite Genie

Probably best remembered as "Jeannie" on the classic 60's TV series, "I Dream of Jeannie" which co-starred Larry Hagman. Barbara has acted in numerous musicals over the years and in 1967, for Dot Records, she released an album called "Miss Barbara Eden". Also, she recorded 3 songs for the soundtrack to the movie "Harper Valley PTA" which she starred in. The movie was turned into a TV series that also starred Barbara and ran from 1981-82.

Kristy and Jimmy McNichol:Page By Page

Singing Siblings

Kristy and her brother Jimmy recorded an album that was a mixture of disco, soft ballads and rock. He's So Fine was the hit off the album.

It was Kristy's role in the TV drama "Family" (1976-80) as Letitia 'Buddy' Lawrence that earned her much of her fan following and it was during the height of her popularity that she and her brother Jimmy recorded an album together. Kristy retired from acting in 1992 after being diagnosed with bi-polar disorder.

Page By Page is my favorite from this album. Great lyrics, give it a listen. :)

Mojo Priest

This is Steven's first venture into releasing a music CD and it's not a bad first effort. We best know him as the strong silent type of action hero, but in real life, Steven is a fan of blues music and attempts to pay homage to that interest with this CD.Those whose first taste of "the blues" is via Mojo Priest are encouraged to dig deeper and discover the rich history of a genre of which Seagal just scratches the surface on this well-intentioned star vehicle.
