Single Zero and Double Zero Roulette Wheels

American casinos as well as the European one always have a roulette table because of the excitement it offers the casino's players. But the casinos in America and the casinos in Europe have a slightly different game in store for roulette players. Both are equally fun and interesting to play, but the odds of each are a little different.

Euro vs American Roulette Wheels

Single 0 vs Double 00

The wheel played in American roulette has 38 spaces, and its European counterpart has 37 spaces. Both wheels have 37 spaces, each number from 0 to 36. The one extra space on the American wheel is a 00 space. It is this space that changes the odds and makes some players greatly prefer one type of wheel over the other.

Having the green 00 space makes the odds of winning lower for the American wheel. This means the American game has a bigger house edge and that players on the American roulette wheel will not win as often. Because of the differing house edge, most players prefer to play European roulette.

Casino or 'House Edge'

The different House Edge values between single 0 and double 00 wheels.

Every casino has a house edge, which is simply a fixed amount that a casino will come out ahead after a long period of time. House edges can't be changed, so most gamblers will look for games with a small one. The American roulette wheel has an edge of 5.3 percent, while the European roulette wheel has a mere 2.7 percent. Because the American house edge is almost twice that of the European version, the European game has a clear statistical advantage.

There is another reason that players prefer the European game. There is a betting strategy that can be played on that version of the wheel for the lowest house edge possible. To get a house edge of just 1.35 percent, a player can make a bet at 1 to 1 odds. If the ball ends in the zero space, the bet is not lost and instead stays in place for the next play. This is called the en prison play, and is a favorite for those looking to get the best possible odds.

In addition to the odds differences, there is another small difference between European roulette and American roulette. American players are issued different colored chips to differentiate them from each other. In the European version of the game, the chips are all identical and players as well as the house must remember the bets and where they originated.

Regardless, Roulette is fun!

Win at roulette and beat the wheel with a system

Of course, whether you play American roulette or European roulette, the game remains a fun and exciting one. And even the higher house edge of American roulette is below the edge of many other games found in casinos. For even better odds, players often rely on certain betting systems to help them to win over the house edge.

There are many systems in existence that can assist players with winning in either the European or American roulette games. Take a look at Roulette Systems, Strategies and Reviews for indepth and comprehensive reviews of popular online roulette systems.
