Single Parent dating - free or paid dating sites what is safer?
Free dating sites can be dangerous
A quick search will find two primary types of dating sites: paid sites and free sites. While the free sites offer the obvious advantage of "no fees", there are many drawbacks that lie beneath their fee-free surface. On the flipside, paying a fee gets you a little more for your money: they're set up to give you a better user experience. And they also offer some form of general safety for their members.
Not all dating sites are equal - so keep that one thing in mind. In the case of a free dating site, you'll get what you pay for - or don't pay for. There can be danger with a free site. You could be opening yourself up to unknown risks, which for single parents could make you even more vulnerable.
If dating sites are truly a business, how can they offer their services for free? First off, you won't find all the fancy perks on the free sites. Free webcam chatting or video hosting capabilities just aren't offered on the free sites. More important, if you have a problem, you won't find customer service ready to help. And surprise! Your free dating website might not even offer a phone number for customer support.
The free website may not offer either the high tech toys or good customer support, but they're fantastic with this: you will see lots of advertising. Expect a whirlwind of banners that pop up and pop under when you sign on. They will also send you email advertising at the minimum of once per week. Want more "fee-free" stuff? They may sell your personal info to one or more large advertising companies.
Still not convinced that free dating sites are not worth your time?
Suppose you join a free dating site and actually find someone who interests you. First step: e-mail correspondence for a few weeks. Then you decide you're ready to do the phone dial-up thing. Ultimately, you enjoy his or her virtual company and decide to meet face-to-face. But since there were no fees to fork over for site membership, who is this person? He or she could be just about anyone. He or she could have uploaded false images and provided false personal information in their profile. And it all could have been done to lure you to meet face to face! Sadly, this isn't unusual and happens all time. The malicious party does not always plan to harm or otherwise hurt the person being deceived, but unfortunately, sometimes that is exactly what he or she plans.
But what if you do meet this person you discovered at a free dating site - and are robbed or otherwise assaulted, what information do you plan to give the police? How will they find this person? There's no credit card on file. Nor is there any other official payment information on file.
You won't have to worry about any of these drawbacks on a paid dating site. While these sites will definitely charge you a fee, the trade off is a much better user experience. And you won't be hassled by paid ads and junk e-mails.
If you decide to join a paid dating site, you'll discover they have detailed search parameters for its member database. And then there are better communication options among the members. Besides e-mail, some offer instant message and even webcam chatting.
Perhaps the best perk of a paid site is the subtlest one that is often undervalued. If you were to get lucky in love and planned to meet someone face to face, you can rest assured that the dating site does have his or her real personal information on file.
