The technological singularity draws its name from the physics
singularity. In physics a singularity represents a point of infinite
mass where the traditional laws of physics break down making further
predictions difficult or impossible.
Thus the technological
version of the singularity represents the point in time at which our
technology reaches a critical threshold and becomes god-like in
potential. By definition it is impossible for us to accurately predict
what will occur once this has occured - or what will be possible.
"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."
