What is the Singularity?

If you've never heard talk of the singularity then you're probably wondering what this page is all about.

So what is it?

Well, a technological singularity is an event that occurs when technological innovation essentially "explodes." Scientific advancement begins to occur at a near unfathomable rate. You can think of this point as the end of an exponential growth curve, where each new technological innovation fuels even more innovations and the cycle continues.

Some believe that this event will occur with the creation of an artificial intelligence that can rapidly learn and innovate at speeds unattainable by humans. Others, doubt that we will ever experience such an event.

Predicting what will happen beyond the singularity is extremely difficult as the pace of innovation and advancement will be occurring so rapidly. New discoveries and theories could easily change the outlook of humanity overnight. And this is exactly why the singularity is such a fascinating event.
